The Kilbryde Hike

The Kilbryde Hike The Kilbryde Hike run by The Boys' Brigade. Come and join the adventure! A 'main hike' team consists of young people with at least one being 15+ years old.

The Kilbryde Hike is a competitive challenge hike for young people aged 11-18 taking place over a weekend in June. Travelling in teams of three over a course of around 30 miles over the two days, boys and girls must be self-sufficient and navigate between checkpoints over open moorland, forest and countryside in timed sections, with hiking and 'incident' (challenge) points available. The hike is n

ot easy, but with the right training, attitude and preparation, is within the reach of all young people. A 'junior' category team must contain at least one 14-year-old and all others 14 and under. The 'expedition' hike is for younger, less experienced hikers, who take part with an adult leader. Participants must carry their own equipment, including tents, stoves & pots, sleeping bag, food, clothing etc.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Alan Roy.

Alan was a great supporter of the Kilbryde Hike for many years and brought teams to compete in it most years. He was always great at encouraging more Scout groups to come and take part in what was often seen as a ‘Boys’ Brigade’ event.

His encouragement and support not just on hike weekends themselves, but in the background before and after events was greatly appreciated.

His passing will be a sad loss to the Scout movement and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this sad time.

Gone Home - Alan Roy

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that our very active Explorer Scout Leader Alan Roy, passed away peacefully at Crosshouse in the early hours of this morning.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Trudy, Abbey and Katie at this really tough time.

Alan was an inspiration to so many that knew him and his legacy lives on in his family and his active and engaging approach to Scouting.
