Ayr Utd 18s (2) Vs (3) East Kilbride FC Girls 18s

Queen Margaret Academy
Sunday 26th April 2026

A nice sunny day for another trip down to Ayr for our postponed league match from earlier in the season.

The girls started very slowly and Ayr went one up pretty early in the game with an avoidable goal before we came back to make it 1 - 1 about 5 mins later.

The game was played in a good spirit but was very scrappy with Ayr playing a little more football than us in the first half. Ayr scored again midway through the first half to make it 2 - 1 and thats how the half finished.

The second half was much better from our point of view, it was still very scrappy but we kept a little better shape and forced Ayr to turn back out looking for passes and minimised them to shots from distance. With about 10 minutes to go our girls did look like they had more in their legs and were spending most of the half in the Ayr half and it eventually paid off with Faryl scoring from outside the box to make it 2 - 2 after a good spell of play. Ayr were then still having shots from distance and Anya had to be on her toes in goal, a few bouncing awkwardly in front of her but she was excellent for the full game and commanded her box well.

It did look a little more likely that we were going to score when we started really pressing the Ayr goal kicks and that's what happened. The ball was pinched off a defender and played through for us to score the winner with a few minutes to go.

Well done to both sets of girls today, it was a hot day and the game, although scrappy from both sets of girls, was played at a good tempo and they were all out on their feet by the end of it.

Thanks to Ayr for the game and good luck for the rest of the season.

Match Report
U16s

ANNAN ATHLETIC v EAST KILBRIDE FC U16s
Galabank Stadium, Annan
18.4.26

An early 9:30am kick-off meant an even earlier rise for everyone and a journey south to Annan.

Today’s game was a massive step forward for the girls in terms of what the coaches have been working on with them in training.

The build-up play through midfield and the sharpness of passing were great to see. The drive, fight, and determination from all the girls were on show for everyone to witness.

Prior to the game, we asked the girls to be brave on the ball in possession and to make sure we carried our passing and movement from training into today’s match. The girls did everything we asked of them.

We began on the front foot and tried to push Annan back immediately. Very quickly, we saw the pace Annan had in their front three, but for the most part the defence coped well with that threat.

Both teams had chances to take the lead but were unable to convert. Annan then took the lead early in the first half, breaking from midfield and finishing high over Grace from just inside the box.

The game continued to ebb and flow toward both goals, with opportunities for both sides.

Annan cleared from their box down the right-hand side, and a low cross into the area fortuitously ricocheted off a knee and into the net for an own goal. (2–0)

Despite going 2–0 down, the girls kept fighting and shortly before half-time got one back. Grace cleared toward the halfway line, and Aimee R took advantage of a defensive error, running through on goal and finishing well.

Half-time: 2–1

The goal just before half-time was a great confidence booster going into the second half.

The energy and desire to win the ball in midfield shown by Anya were fantastic to see. She then showed real composure to find Gracie in the centre circle, who played a neat one-two with Aimee R. Aimee ran through on goal and calmly rounded the keeper — a great team goal.
(2–2)

The game then went end to end again, with both sides creating chances but unable to convert. Grace made some excellent saves and showed real bravery with the ball at her feet.

As full-time approached, we began to sit just that little bit deeper, allowing Annan to press us back. The girls were still doing everything right and showing great composure in dealing with the threat.

After an attack on Annan’s goal, the ball was cleared downfield, and a small mix-up in defence allowed the ball to break to Annan, who took advantage.

Full-time: 3–2

A sore one to take right at the end, but even after that setback the girls didn’t give up and fought until the final whistle, unlucky not to get the draw we deserved on the balance of play.

We are immensely proud of the team effort today, with all the coaches excited and delighted to see the hard work on the training ground now starting to show itself on the field.

As long as the girls continue to play like that — the results will come.

MATCH REPORT

Kirkfield Utd v EKFC 16s
Lanark Racecourse
8.3.26
South West League Cup 2026

A beautiful, crisp morning set the stage for our first cup game of the season, with the girls finishing convincing winners against a well-organised and physical Kirkfield side.

EKFC started sharply and on the front foot, leading to a perfect start. Aine opened the scoring with a fantastic strike from just outside the box, lifting the ball over the keeper and into the net.

Kirkfield responded quickly, however, with a well-worked ball over the top to beat Grace and level the score.

The girls remained composed and focused. The key message today was communication, encouragement, and bravery in their passing. They quickly settled back into their rhythm, although this was briefly disrupted when Abbie had to come off injured following a heavy challenge.

After a bit of reshuffling, the girls regained the lead with another well-worked move, finished well by Aimee.

The remainder of the half saw sustained pressure in the Kirkfield half, with two further quality goals added to make it 4–1 at half time.

The message at the break was simple: more of the same.

Composure in the back line and simple passes out from defence were key to maintaining pressure on our opponents.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with the majority of play taking place in the opposition half. There were a few half chances, and Aine was unlucky not to add another when a dangerous corner dropped right in front of the keeper, who dealt with it well.

The link-up play between the midfield four—particularly down the right—was very effective and great to watch. On the left, Aimee C’s pace proved to be a constant threat and was used well by the girls.

There were no further goals in the second half, but the quality of football on display was a joy to watch.

The tempo, control, and communication were all very positive, and the hard work in training is beginning to show on the pitch as the team continues to gel.

A very well-earned result for the girls, especially given the injuries we are currently dealing with.

Thanks to Kirkfield for hosting, and best of luck for the season ahead.

East Kilbride Ladies (0) Vs (1) Holytown Ladies

Friday 27th February 2026

Another league game for the ladies where they competed well but just couldn't push through for a result. A draw would have been the fair result for the match but errors with 5 mins to go allowed Holytown in to score the only goal of the game for them to come away with the win.

A good hard fought game between both teams and both teams gave everything. It was a tight game with very little space for anyone on the pitch with the ladies working very hard to shut each other down all over the pitch.

Thanks to Holytown for the game and good luck with the rest of the season.

Stewarton Annick Girls 18s (1) Vs (4) East Kilbride Girls 18s

Sunday 1st March 2026

The second match of our league campaign and all went well. After creating a few chances the girls eventually broke the deadlock when Marisa pinched the ball off of the Stewarton defender before driving at goal and taking it round the keeper to make it 0-1 just after 20 mins. The chances kept coming for the rest of the first half but the girls just couldn't convert them. A combination of great saves from the Stewarton keeper and unlucky finishing kept the score at 0-1 at half time.

The second half started the same with the girls making chances but the score didn't stayed at 0-1 until 24 minutes into the second half. Marisa pounced on a short back pass to lob the keeper to make it 0-2 with a great finish.

Stewarton got one back with a rare attack and some lack lustre defending which left the Stewarton striker 1 on 1 with Anya in our goal who couldn't keep out the shot. That made the score 1-2.

The Stewarton goal spurred the girls on and 5 minutes later Emma and Cara kept a long throw into the box alive to allow Cara to slide the ball over the line after a ball from Emma to make it 1-3.

With 5 minutes left of the game the girls defended a Stewarton free kick and played out from back to front finishing in a goal. Faryl played the ball in to Cara who played a perfect through ball to Cali who when 1 on 1 with he keeper slotted the ball perfectly into the bottom corner with power to make it 1-4.

The girls deserved the victory today, one down side is the one defensive slip to let Stewarton back into the game, and another is some of the finishing, something to work on in training for the girls.

Thanks to Stewarton for the game and good luck with the rest of the season.

Cumnock Juniors 16s v EKFC 16s
Venue: Barony Campus
Kick-off: 11:00am

EKFC 16s began their new season with an away fixture against Cumnock Juniors at Barony Campus.

The opening 20–25 minutes were evenly contested, with both teams competing well. We arguably created the better chances during this period and looked threatening in the final third. Unfortunately, we were forced into an early change when Grace sustained an ankle injury following a corner and was unable to continue.

Up to that point, the team’s shape—particularly out of possession—was working effectively. Aimee C provided an excellent outlet on the wing, using her pace to get in behind the Cumnock defence on several occasions. Both Aimees were unfortunate not to find the net in the first half, with good efforts well saved by the goalkeeper.

Cumnock took the lead following a goalmouth scramble, with the referee adjudging the ball to have crossed the line. Shortly before half-time, a moment of hesitation in defence allowed Cumnock to capitalise and extend their lead.

Half-time: 2–0

At the interval, the focus was on encouraging the players to be more assertive in challenges, particularly in midfield, and to show greater composure in possession. We emphasised the importance of building confidence through shorter passes rather than clearing our lines too quickly or resorting to long balls when opportunities to play were available. That composure will continue to develop with game time.

Cumnock added two further goals in the second half, both from set pieces that we felt could have been defended more effectively as a team. Despite this, we continued to create chances and were unfortunate not to convert on several occasions.

The girls were rewarded for their efforts late in the game. Abbie struck a superb volley that crashed off the crossbar, and Eva reacted quickest to gather the loose ball. We then worked the ball well back into Aimee R, who finished confidently.

There is plenty to build on and focus on in training this week. We will also take time on Tuesday to debrief with the players and discuss how best to manage and channel frustrations that are beyond their control.

Thank you to Cumnock for their hospitality, and we wish them every success for the season ahead.

EKFC Girls 18s (7) Vs (0) Athena 18s

Sunday 30th November 2025

A great day for a game and a great game by our girls.

The away leg of this fixture was a terrible day for the girls but today was exactly the opposite. From start to finish they dominated the game and took the game to the opposition. The first 10 mins saw us missing some big chances but it always felt like it was coming. We were creating lots in front of their goal and getting shots off which is always encouraging.

The first goal came from this pressure when Claudia was brought down in the box for a penalty which was scored by Cali, this opened the flood gates.

The defence mopped up everything that was thrown at them and again brought the ball out of defence brilliantly to start the attacks and the midfield completely controlled the middle of the park. Every time the ball went into the final third it looked like we would create a chance. It was a well deserved big win for the girls today.

A word on the girls today because during the away leg they got dragged into lots of nonsense. They were reacting and it put them off their game leading to a heavy loss and it did not show us in a good light at all. Today they didn't get dragged into anything and kept their head in the game and got their biggest win of the season because of it.

Hopefully after today the girls can see what happens when they just concentrate on the game and don't get dragged into anything else, two games this season we have let ourselves down from good positions by reacting to the opposition.

One more thing on the matches, these are children playing football and these children learn from all of us. There is never any need to be shouting any negative comments to our girls or the opposition girls, ever, the girls respond to encouragement and love the encouragement from the parents.

As a club we would rather see our parents give even the opposition players praise for a pass well made, a good run or nice goal. We appreciate it is competitive and easy to get drawn in. As coaches we get drawn in and maybe have some choice words with the referee when we feel they aren't protecting our players or with the opposition coaches but we never ever say anything negative to the girls on the park, we certainly don't negatively engage with the opposition girls on the pitch. On the odd occasion we do engage an opposition player it is to maybe say unlucky or well played or even ensure they are fine after a knock or clumsy tackle.

We would appreciate if we could all keep this in mind when supporting the girls and the team. The girls do value your support and we would like to try and be the club everyone looks up to and praises both the players and parents for their good sportsmanship and hospitality.
