EK Colts 2017s delivered a strong and energetic performance at the 2016s Football Festival on Sunday, stepping up an age group and showing real confidence against older opposition.
From the opening game, the Colts looked unfazed by the physical and technical demands of playing against 2016-born teams. Their pressing was sharp and well-timed, with the players working hard to close space quickly and force turnovers high up the pitch. Even when out of possession, the team held their shape well for long spells, showing good discipline for their age.
In possession, EK Colts 2017s showed encouraging bravery. Rather than rushing clearances, they often tried to play out from the back, linking passes through midfield and looking to build attacks with intent. There were moments of really tidy combination play in tight areas, particularly in transition, where their pace and energy caused problems for older opponents.
Defensively, the group showed resilience. They competed strongly in duels and recovered well when caught out of position, with the goalkeeper and back line making several important interventions during the festival. While there were naturally a few moments where the physical difference between age groups showed, the response was consistently positive, with heads staying up and effort levels remaining high.
The standout feature of the day was their attitude. Even after conceding goals or facing stronger spells from opposition teams, EK Colts 2017s continued to play their football and look for solutions rather than dropping their standards. That resilience, combined with their technical willingness to play, made them one of the more eye-catching younger squads in the festival.
Overall, it was a highly valuable experience. Competing against older teams provided a clear test, and EK Colts 2017s came away with credit for their work rate, organisation, and courage in possession.
