Club Update:
We’ll it’s been a very busy few weeks for the club and coaches. First up was the Boxing Scotland Development A & B championships held at the Ravenscraig National Sports Arena in Motherwell. First up was Ryan Taylor our 60Kg senior boxer, Ryan successfully negotiated his qualifying bout stopping his opponent in the third round to progress to the semi-finals where he recieved a by to the final due to his opponent pulling out at the 11th hour. Ryan fought his final on Sunday 13th November and we must say fought a brilliant fight, listened to his coaches, stuck to the game plan and overwhelmed his opponent with his high work rate and punch accuracy resulting in a unnanimous victory over the three rounds thus claiming the development B elite category 60Kg Scottish Championship title and gold medal. We couldn’t be more pleased for Ryan and thoroughly deserved for all the hard work he put in the gym beforehand. Next up was Craig Newton our 63Kg 2004 youth boxer. Craig had a straight final which was also fought on Sunday 13th November. Craigs opponent was a very accomplished fighter who knew his craft. Although Craig put in a very could performance to be proud of, on the day it just wasn’t to be, in saying that the referee was very lenient towards his opponent who smothered Craig’s work by constantly holding onto Craig once Craig had worked out his opponent and got inside. For his brave efforts Craig took home the runners up silver medal in the youth 63Kg development B catergory. We’ll done Craig and we go again on the next one. Lastly we had Kaveh Azizi our 86Kg open class boxer competing in the final of the Western District Scottish championships at the Normandy Hotel, Renfrewshire last night. Although a long night waiting around, Kaveh took to the ring in the second last bout of the night against Kieran Burke of Forgewood ABC in what turned out to be an absolute sledgehammer of a fight with both fighters putting it on the line exchanging some serious heavy punches through the three rounds. What a fight it was and in the end Kaveh took the split decision over his opponent to be awarded the gold plaque and title of new western district Scottish champion at 86Kg. A big shout out to Kieran Burke and the Forgewood team and wish them all the best for the season ahead. A big thanks must also goto the master of pro wraps, Cruel Jono who very kindly volunteered his services to do Kavehs wraps on the night. Thanks again Jono 👍. Thanks also goto the clubs coaches and everyone who work tirelessly behind the scenes and give up there free time to get involved with the club.
