Thank you to all those who took part in the SKK 2026 Easter Kata Challenge! The grand total stands at 2,048 with 44 participants and 58 different kata - smashing last year's 1,750 total. Kanzenki contributed 847 kata (our red belts contributing over half of our total - an amazing effort). Thank you Sensei Brian for organising, and well done everyone!

Easter Kata Challenge 2026!

Every year for the past few years the Shotokan Karate-do Kenkyujo (SKK) has organised the Easter Kata Challenge.
All you have to do is as many kata as you want over the Easter weekend (Fri 3 - Mon 6 Apr), record what you did and how many, and then let me know, and I’ll submit the total. It can be as little as 1 kata up to, well, 100s if you like!
Even if you only know Heian Shodan - do that five times every day of the holiday weekend and you’ve contributed 20 kata - plus it’s great practice too 🙂
Last year we totalled 1,750 kata performances of 50 different kata with 35 participants across the SKK dojos. Kanzenki’s contribution was 936 kata - can we beat it?

Big grading at Kanzenki last night - congratulations to everyone, the result of a lot of hard work. Special thanks to Dorian Fretwell Sensei; also to Sensei Brian Salmon, Chris Slade and Mike Carroll who travelled a fair distance to support us on the night; as well as Sensei Keith Hawker and Alex Lowe. Well done all!

Okay ... let's try this again. Mon 19 Jan, Wed 21 Jan - water back on, karate back on! 😁
