⚽ Is your team transitioning to 11-a-side football after the summer?

This is exactly why clubs are bringing athletic development into their training environment.

At Future Athletes, we provide athletic development sessions designed to help young footballers improve physically in a way that transfers directly into performance on the pitch ⚽

Sessions focus on developing:

• Speed
• Strength
• Movement mechanics
• Coordination
• Power

All delivered in an engaging, age-appropriate environment alongside football-specific movement and competition.

With experience working across academy and first team football, sessions are designed using methods and principles used within the professional game, adapted appropriately for youth athletes.

We’re currently looking to work with a football team who train on Tuesdays to deliver athletic development sessions alongside their football training.

We also offer once-a-month sessions for clubs looking to introduce athletic development into their environment without committing to weekly sessions.

Something I think about a lot with this age group is how to develop physical qualities without it feeling like “training.”

On paper, we can say:
speed, strength, coordination, power.

But if it’s delivered in a way that doesn’t engage them, it rarely transfers.

So a big part of what I do is “package” these qualities into activities that look and feel like play:

• competing
• reacting
• problem solving
• working against resistance

From wrestling and tug work, to jumps, sprints and strength exercises — it’s all intentional.

The aim is simple:

👉 build better athletes
👉 in a way they actually enjoy

Because at this age, effort and intent are usually a reflection of how well the session has been designed.

Most young players aren’t getting faster — and it’s not down to effort.

A lot of the time, they’re just missing the right type of training.

Football on its own doesn’t fully develop speed, strength or movement.

That’s where proper strength & conditioning comes in.

In my sessions, we focus on:
• Building strength
• Improving movement mechanics
• Developing coordination
• Structured progression over time

This is what actually helps young athletes improve.

A lot of players focus on jumping higher, but what comes first is strength and control.

Exercises like this help develop:
• balance
• stability
• single leg strength

These are key qualities that support movements like jumping and sprinting.

It’s about building the right foundations first.

Drop. Stick. Jump.

A lot of people focus on the exercise, but what really matters is how it’s coached.

Clear instruction helps young athletes:
• control their movement
• improve coordination
• develop power properly

This is a simple drill, but the detail behind it is what makes the difference.
