Custom handmade bicycles, repairs and servicing, bike fitting, sales, paint design and resprays, friendly faces. Easingwold, UK.

I started Feather Cycles a couple of years ago with an intent to build quality steel bicycle frames right here on U.K soil. It occurred to me that the U.K steel frame market didn't seem to be moving with the times and that only a few builders were doing anything different. Feather Cycles uses traditional methods to create not only bikes built from the latest materials, but also with a contemporary look. All the while building traditional looking bikes too! Buying a custom Feather frame, not only will it be tailored to fit you perfectly, it will also reflect your personality and taste. So, whether it's a bike for racing or touring, off road trails or the track, sunday best or your daily commute, maybe even all of the above, Feather Cycles will cover all the bases to fit your wants and needs.

Just finished off this gorgeous stainless steel fork build for an upcoming stainless frameset. Hopefully, some time this century, the seat tube will arrive 😅✨

It’s the end of an era. Our little niece isn’t so little anymore and we just bought her first pedal bike. Her balance bike is back here ready to be resprayed and prepared for her little bro once he’s big enough.

Classic Feather this one, “it’ll only take a couple of evenings” I said. Then I got carried away, making and machining all sorts of custom bits for this cute little thing.

This bike was a LOT of work but has turned out amazing. I can’t wait to see this thing in paint and final build.

Super fun! Bridges and seat clamp tomorrow, built in front rack and forks next week. I might even spoil the customer to a custom stem for this one as I feel the project deserves it.

FC SBP 1/50 complete and looking incredible.

Lot’s of polished stainless steel on this one for returning customer, Michael.

The scalloped stay ends mirror those on the fixed gear bike I built for him in 2017. This time around it’s an all-road bike and the requirements led me to using plate dropouts, but due to the length of them it resulted in very untidy Di2 wire routing, so I fabricated these little stainless steel guides to compliment the stay tips and have some continuation among the design features.

I’m very excited to see this one come together!

Last week, I had the incredible privilege of being invited to Brussels for a private screening of 525: The Unstoppable Eddy Merckx. Sitting with Mrs Feather among Eddy, his family, his closest friends and many other cycling legends we’d be lying if we said we didn’t feel like imposters.

Aside from the film being incredible, and educational to myself due to the multi-generational difference, the emotion in the room was undeniable. Hearing Axel and Sabrina, Eddy’s great friend Italo Zilioli and Johan Museeuw tell their stories following the film was a once in a lifetime experience for everyone in the theatre. I’m sure that more than a few shed some tears when Sabrina and Axel expressed their love for their father and just how committed he was to giving them a great life.

My soon to be three time customer Nick Blow was included in the list of donors who made the film possible and was the reason we were so lucky to be there. It was superb to spend more time with one of the few customers I now consider good mate. Nick, a Yorkshireman himself, took a couple of days off work to show me the place he has called home for the last 30 years. We spent two solid days out on a pair of Feather’s riding out east to the ‘geboortehuis’ of Eddy on day one, then followed a bunch of the Eddy Merckx Route from Oudenaarde to Brussels on day two, taking on many of the famous bergs from Ronde Van Vlaanderen and other spring classics.

I am still blown away with just how stunning Flanders is, I felt really at home there with its resemblance to many of the areas I ride here in Yorkshire and can’t wait to go back again soon.

Thanks again, Nick, for everything!

I’ve been pretty quiet on here recently, but I had a long chat with a customer this morning who has been itching to see what I’m up to, so it prompted me to share a little bit of what has been going on in the workshop.

I have a few builds going through at the minute, including the very first of the , an awesome all-road bike for a wonderful returning customer, an amazing semi-step-through mixte hybrid belt-drive bike for town and country and what will be a gorgeous rim brake frameset (which is just waiting on a seat tube).

Only 10 slots of the final 50 are yet to be filled, and I’ll be adding more slots to the website soon which will be available for purchase.

These will only be available to buy via the website, and once an order is placed, I will arrange a call with the buyer to talk through ideas. I’m incredibly busy working on builds in the workshop and producing some of the best work of my career and can’t wait to share some of what is coming up.

I’m also super excited for what Jack Johnson has up his sleeve as he moves across into his amazing new work space, but you already know it’s going to be special!

I’m super pleased with the outcome of Gaz’ Columbus XCr frame. Gaz is an old BMX mate of mine from over 20 years ago when we would get regular visits from the Preston crew when I was living in Leeds. It was a real honour to hear from Gaz when he asked if I would build his 40th birthday bike.

This thing is going to get an unbelievable paint job based on Gaz’s other passion, with plenty of raw stainless steel thrown into the mix. Keep your 👀 peeled!

It’s builds like this which really get me excited and allow me to showcase what is beneath the wonderful work of Jack Johnson. It’s often brought up that it’s a shame to cover these joints with paint, but I’ve always stood strong in my belief that mine and Jack’s work are actually complimentary to one another. You might see lots of nice smooth fillets at first glance, but you wouldn’t believe how many are smoothed out with car body filler. Not mine. Mine are the result of many hours of patience and repetition, sometimes bordering on intense boredom, but it’s ALWAYS worth it for the end result.

After a long awaited and much needed break with Mrs Feather, I’m back at the bench and feeling motivated and inspired after witnessing the preservation and appreciation of quality craftsmanship in Japan. Buy a cup of coffee or a cocktail, it’ll be the best you’ve drank; look at a wall, it’s the best brick bond you’ve seen; walk into a restaurant and it’ll be the warmest welcome you’ve ever received. Nothing is rushed, but everything is quality and there’s an effortless feeling of relaxation and pride. We all need more of this.
