Meet the Pros! It's me, . Not only will I be at the Kentucky Stone Skipping Invitational presented by , but this is my brain child. This contest has developed from my love of stone skipping and the outdoors. I hope you all are able to make it out and enjoy the event. If you don't make it this year, first Saturday in June, for the foreseeable future, I'll be right here on the bank of Lake Shelby skipping stones with my family and friends and whoever else wants to join us. I hope you can make it sometime in the future.
What is your name/nickname? Jon / The Green Giant
Where are you from? Graefenburg, KY
How old are you? 37
How long have you been skipping stones? All my life, but 4 years professionally.
Did you play any sports growing up that you feel help with stone skipping? No, I just played in the creeks all day. My uncle says that settings skipping made me a natural at golf. The swing of a club is a very similar motion to the throw of a stone.
What is your highest personal and official skipping count/distance? My highest official count is 82 skips (I think it was more in the 60s), and I threw 356 feet in a distance contest one time. My personal best, I would say, is in the low 70s, but all my best always hit something like a bank or a branch. So, I always feel like they had more juice left.
How did you hear about competitive stone skipping? I saw a paper flyer for the Great Southern Stone Skipping Championship while visiting my grandfather's hometown.
What are your biggest accomplishments in stone skipping? I asked this question so I could let people brag about their achievements. Contests they've won, places they've traveled, things like that. To be quite honest, I was excited to brag as well. As I set here by the lake thinking about the friends I'm going to see today and the friends I will be missing. I believe the community and friendships I have gained through the wonderful sport of competitive stone skipping are personally my biggest accomplishments.
