Just finishing up 3 wonderful weeks working in the Swiss alps for NAE. Two different weeks with schools from Bratislava and Dubai.

Dubai students were doing their Gold international award hike over four days, staying in mountain huts on the way. All the students did very well, with solid navigation and possibly more importantly, realising they were lost at times and working out what needed to be done to not be lost!

Lots of wildlife seen, with Chamois, Ibex, Golden Eagle, Bearded Vultures all being seen. Even saw a family of weasels!

Upcoming courses…we have our intro to navigation taking place in Dursley on the 7th July. This is the day after the Cotswold Way Relay for those who are local and will be a perfect stretch out of tired legs. We will be walking for this course so no worries about not being able to run.

On the 10th & 11th August we will be running a Mountain running workshop in Eryri. Over the course of the weekend we will be looking at the skills needed to get out safely in the mountains. These will include coaching around footwork, route selection and navigation, as well as ascending and descending skills. Overall enabling you to to feel safe in the mountains while having fun running some of the amazing trails in the area.

Just back from four fantastic days around the Tour des Muverans here in Switzerland for Nord Anglia Education.

Had to miss out one Col due to too much snow but other than that the students did amazingly well throughout.

Lucky to stay in some amazing huts as well!

Fun weekend just gone in and around Dartmoor. Such a beautiful place with stunning archaeological sites seemingly everywhere.

Boulder Skyline Traverse yesterday…. This run does what it says on the tin, taking in the skyline and five peaks above Boulder, Colorado.

Clocking in at about 29km and close to 2000 metres of climbing with a good mix of technical running and fast flowing trails this was a fun day out.

Was made even more fun by a random snowstorm setting in for a couple of hours on the first few peaks!

Currently visiting my wife’s family in the states so we headed up into Yosemite National Park yesterday to go for a run/walk around the giant sequoias at Mariposa Grove.

Absolutely stunning seeing these giant trees up close and some nice trails through the forest as well. Also zero mud which was a nice change from home!

Fun weekend just gone. Saturday was spent with two old students of mine from working at UWC Dilijan, Katya & Lucia.

Katya is currently training to run the length of the The Transcaucasian Trail in Armenia as an FKT attempt so wanted a quick refresher on navigation as well as to come and enjoy the local hills!

Sunday was over to the Black Mountains again for more Bob Graham training. Always a beautiful place with a wild feel to it.

Something slightly different yesterday…we’d cancelled going up to the Lakes as the forecast was grim so we headed over to the Black Mountains to try a fairly arbitrary challenge called the Black Mountains Traverse Challenge.

It’s a pre-defined set of check points to tick off going peak-valley-peak-valley etc. Some interesting terrain crossed with good navigation needed (always good to practise!) We also got to see the very random monolith on Hay Bluff!

We got lucky with the weather and had a great day out in the end. We’ve got some trips planned in the Black Mountains later in the year and some navigation lessons so please get in touch if you’re interested.

Now from mid-Wales to the Lake District…this summer I’m planning on having an attempt at the Bob Graham Round so trying to get some good recces of the route.

The last two days have mainly been spent wading through bogs and trying not to slip on the wettest grassy descents. Fun all the same though!

P.s. always enjoy the lake districts bus service, Alfie less so😂
