Durham Dodgers Netball Club originated from a Back to Netball group, set up by England Netball North East. The Back to Netball programme is aimed at providing a gentle introduction to the sport for female players over sixteen years of age. Sessions are coach led and cover basic skill development and court play. The emphasis of the Back to Netball sessions were to learn new skills and have fun play
ing Netball with friends. Whether it was about rediscovering sporting abilities we forgot we had or about getting active again, the session catered for all abilities to get fit, have fun and make friends. Our players enjoyed the sessions so much we started playing in our local Back to Netball tournaments and even joined a Back to Netball league. We are now a club in our own right, but we still advertise as a Back to Netball group, as we are keen for more women to come along and play netball and rekindle their love for the game. We train weekly at New College Durham and the sessions are lead by Fiona, our qualified netball coach. Matches are usually every other week and we often enter local tournaments. Although we do love our netball, we are also a very sociable group, who have been know to frequent our local pub for a post match debrief... well Durham Dodger- Katy.W is the landlord! We have become friends through netball and think it's a great way to get fit, have fun and socialise. We welcome new players to come and join in!
