Below is a table showing the moisture deficit (ml) out on the course over the last six months.

To put that into context of water volumes per surface;

Tee boxes (0.5Ha) - 1,703,500 litres.
Approaches (1.5Ha) - 5,110,500 litres.
Fairways (12Ha) - 40,884,000 litres.

Thankfully, as days shorten and cooler nights with dewy mornings become the norm, recovery can start.

This morning, a selective herbicide will be applied to spot treat weeds in the semi rough on the Castle field (holes 1, 2, 3, 10 & 11).

Please try to avoid walking/playing through weeds in this area before 10:00.

After five fantastic years with us, Adam, one of our Assistant Greenkeepers, is moving on to new horizons as the Course Manager at Garesfield Golf Club.

He’s been an excellent addition to the CLS family, not only through his work but also as a regular in the men’s team, who also happens to be our current Club Champion.

It’s a shame to lose such a valuable team member, but we wish him the very best of luck in the future.

Thank you, Adam. 🙏

An update on this week’s greens renovations and challenges of keeping up with cutting out on the course.

04/04/2025

This week posed challenges for greens maintenance due to frost most mornings. Fortunately, the sun came out in the afternoons, allowing the team to adapt, persevere, and employ some unconventional methods to complete the work.

We successfully micro-cored, top-dressed (20 tons), brushed, rolled, and cut the greens.

Following the VGR TopCharger, we have now applied a total of 60 tons of dressing ahead of the season, which is fantastic.

We also cut the course and set up the summer tee signs and flags for this weekend's opening four-ball.

Due to the weather, we have had to undertake more work than usual in and around golf. With the season soon underway and tee sheets getting busier, it’s essential for members to remember that green staff have priority on the course. Please refrain from playing shots into areas where they are working. Our team is dedicated to preparing the course for your enjoyment and deserves to do so in a safe environment before returning home to our families. It has been concerning to see a number of near misses this week.

Winter wheels are no longer needed.

The regular summer route will resume on Monday, March 24th.

Post and rope will be gradually taken down from the course, and the main summer tees will be reintroduced as we prepare for the first competition.

The greens were cut this morning, and a granular fertilizer was applied in anticipation of today’s forecasted rain.

Recovery from last week’s renovations has been excellent, during which we managed to integrate 40 tonnes of dressing directly into the subsurfaces.

A big shoutout to the team at www.dunstanburghturfcontracting.com for working with us and helping to get our season off to a great start.

The next greens renovations will include micro-coring, verti-cutting, and 15 tonnes of dressing, booked for the week of March 31st. This work will cause minimal disruption, continuing our commitment to minimizing disruption to our surfaces and the golfing calendar.
