Think you’ve got a turn of speed?

This year’s National Hill Climb at Porlock is going to be a little different.

Recent editions of the National have taken place on short, brutally steep courses. Last year’s winning ride at Matlock was over in just 2 minutes 14 seconds.

Porlock Toll Road is a very different challenge: 4.1 miles, with the winning ride expected to take around 15 minutes.

But you don’t have to be challenging for the overall title to have something to race for.

Thanks to the generous support of Exposure Lights, we’ll have the Exposure Lights Speed Trap roughly halfway up the course, on one of the slightly flatter sections.

Every rider’s speed will be measured over 10 metres, with £250 for the fastest woman and £250 for the fastest man.

There is some small print…

One attempt only. It has to be uphill. And you’ll need to complete the full course in 30 minutes or less for your speed to qualify.

So, no hanging around before the speed trap!

A huge thank you to Exposure Lights for supporting the National and giving even more riders something to race for on 25 October.

We’re also incredibly grateful to all those supporting this year’s National Hill Climb, including Exmoor National Park SCOTT Sports HUNT Bike Wheels Porlock Parish Council Alpcycles Rhizome Energy Ltd

A big thank you to Porlock Parish Council for supporting this year’s RTTC National Hill Climb Championship.

Bringing a national event like this to Porlock wouldn’t be possible without the support of the local community and organisations who get behind it.

On 25 October, riders from across the country will take on the iconic Porlock Toll Road, bringing some of the very best in British hill climbing right here to Exmoor.

We’re incredibly grateful to Porlock Parish Council for supporting the event and helping us showcase our brilliant corner of the country to the wider cycling community.

Thank you for being part of it – we can’t wait to welcome everyone to Porlock in October.

Cycling has changed enormously over the last decade. Technology has made it easier than ever to train on your own, plan routes from your phone and ride thousands of virtual miles without leaving the house.

Despite all of that, cycling clubs continue to thrive.

Perhaps it's because some things haven't changed. There will always be someone who knows a quieter road, a better café stop or a route you've somehow never ridden before. There will always be someone waiting at the top of a climb, and there will always be a conversation over coffee afterwards about how much harder the wind seemed than last week.

Minehead Cycling Club has been bringing riders together for many years and continues to welcome people of all abilities. Some members race regularly, others simply enjoy exploring West Somerset and Exmoor in good company. Many of our rides are suitable for e-bikes too, making it easier for everyone to enjoy the same routes together.

This October, Minehead Cycling Club will be welcoming riders from across the country to Porlock for the 2026 RTTC National Hill Climb Championship.

For a local cycling club, hosting a national championship on our doorstep is a pretty special opportunity – and one we’re really looking forward to sharing with the wider community.

On Sunday 25 October, the Porlock Toll Road will become the setting for one of the biggest events in the UK hill climb calendar, with riders taking on the 4.1-mile climb in pursuit of the national title.

But the day isn’t just for those taking part. We’d love to see local people, cycling fans, families and visitors lining the route and enjoying the atmosphere as some of the country’s best hill climbers take on one of Exmoor’s most spectacular roads.

There’s still plenty to come between now and October, and over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing more about the event, the riders, the course and how you can get involved.
