We do like to keep things light on our page but this post is unfortunately less so.
It's come to light sadly, that not everyone supports Whiteadder Watersports' vision to maintain the site as a valuable resource to enjoy watersports and the environment safely and happily. Recent events on site have included rubbish being left around, boats being tampered with (one boat had its bungs removed over the weekend and was found submerged today nearly ending activities for the summer), camping in the private boat/launch park, BBQ's burning the wooden jetty, centre boats being launched and used without permission and volunteers being subjected to verbal abuse.
We are hoping this is just due to a lack of understanding about ownership of the centre and how it runs:
We would like to remind everyone that we are a charity, run soley by volunteers. We are an accredited Watersports centre. We do not receive funding from a council or Scottish Water. We maintain the carpark and facilities ourselves and, as per our lease, the carek park and private boat storage area is for paying centre users or locals with a CELCA site pass*. Alternative parking for non-centre users is available else-where around the reservoir.
Our volunteers empty the bins and take all the waste home. We do not have bin collections. Volunteers do all our own site and building cleaning and maintenance.
We would love to offer walk in hires and activities but as volunteers this all needs to be arranged in advance. We will always do our best to arrange things at short notice, however verbal abuse will not be tolerated if our answer is we can’t.
We have permission to gate the car to reduce on-site issues and to protect our resources. We do not want to do this but our hands may be forced if issues continue.
Please help us to support the longevity of Whiteadder Watersports, today we were nearly unable to offer activities due to damage caused by antisocial behaviour – please spread the word about how we work.
*The CELCA pass allows for access to the carpark and site. It does not however give access to activities or equipment without booking first.
