Today, Barnston AFC have sacked Richard James and Gary Johnson as managers of the Barnston Reserves, and expelled the team from the club with the season not even complete, after 6 years of service in order to make way for ‘local side’ Dunmow Town Reserves to use the pitch next season. After a Covid Cup win last year, which saw Chairman Bob Tyler lift the first Barnston trophy in 30 years, the committee is now unfortunately led by self-elected individuals who have pursued personal agendas and exhibited barbaric behaviour in ousting a team and several previous committee members that have had 6 years of fantastic memories. Unfortunately, the club is a shadow of its former self, and has even proceeded to hold disciplinary hearings for players and management. This follows the removal of the previous first team manager mid-season and profit demands being made during a charity football match. The installation of Dunmow Town is a financial move, and continues to remove any local association with the town.
As a team we have loved playing for Barnston over the years, and want to thank everyone who has supported us and been part of our journey. It has felt like a proper community team and unfortunately 17 local lads will have to look to play football elsewhere next year.
