Dunfermline Bowling Club

Dunfermline Bowling Club Dunfermline Bowling Club was established in 1852. Coaching is available to new members on a Saturday morning. Our season runs from April to October.

History:
A group of twelve men met on 16th April 1852 in the George Inn (junction of High St & Randolph St.) to institute Dunfermline Bowling Club. They obtained the necessary funds & leased a piece of garden ground at the top of Woodhead St. (North Chalmers St.) The green was enlarged in 1858 but this was not sufficient to cope with the increased membership so they investigated in the possibility

to move to a new site. Several sites were inspected & it was decided that Scotland Park (the area south of Abbey Park Place) would be best. The Abbey Park Bowling Club, formed in 1855 & sometimes known as the "South Club", already had a green on the lawn of Abbey Park House (headquarters of the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust). This site was owned back then by the Bank Of Scotland & they granted a lease for the lower half of the garden to be made into a bowling green if the two clubs amalgamated. This happened on 24th August 1859. In 1862 the clubhouse was built by a firm from Carnoustie. This is a listed building which can still be seen today.

The Veterans Day for the Royal Artillery Association took place today. Everyone had a great time which is what bowls is all about. Lots of laughter was heard on and off the green.
A wee bite to eat was provided. Many thanks to all who helped make this a great day particularly to the D.B.C. players who helped the veterans who hadn't played before. A big thanks to Jimmy who kept everyone "well watered" and to the ladies who organised the food.

MEMBERS NOTICE.

It is with great sadness and this is very difficult to comprehend that we have been notified of the untimely passing last night of Graham Mitchell at the age of just 62.

Graham was the President of Abbeyview Bowling Club in 2009 & 2010 and served on the committee for over two decades and for many of those years he fulfilled the role as social convenor. Graham enjoyed bowling and was a sociable lad who enjoyed a beer and was good company. Graham struggled within himself when his beloved wife Angie passed and he was never able to recover from that devastating life event. Our thoughts at this most difficult time are with the family and those closest to Graham.

Rest easy big fellow you will be deeply missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing you as a friend for many many years.

Our first friendly game of the 2026 season took place on Saturday at Fair Isle Bowling Club in Kirkcaldy. The weather stayed fair, the green played well, the food was excellent and the company was great. Many thanks to everyone from Fair Isle and we look forward to the return game when we welcome you to Dunfermline.
