πŸ’šπŸ Match Report Sat 13th of June πŸπŸ’š

Broomhall returned to the Cairns on Saturday.

Broomhall won their first toss of the season and elected to bat.

The innings did not get off to an ideal start with both openers removed with 18 on the board. Stability however, would be provided through our skipper and Gus. Gus would provide stable and stoic batting allowing Scott to set a platform from the other end. The partnership would be broken on 93 after Gus departed for 19. Scott would continue to force the issue before falling for 93. With 9 overs left Broomhall looked to open up and take more risks. Although this did lead to more runs it did in turn open up a couple of run outs seeing Jamie and Donny Depart this way. Dispite some late hitting from Breeny Broomhall would complete our innings on 179.

After a couple of tricky weeks with the bat it a positive to see us getting solid totals on the board again.

The opposition began the chase aggressively and it would take a quick fire double from Gags to reign the visitors in setting up an even start to the second innings. For the rest of the innings I have typed up and deleted a couple of times so let’s just say cricket was not the winner. Despite wickets from Chris,Phil and Scott the total was chased down.

Lots of positives to take from today as we now have a free week with no match now scheduled for the weekend.

MOTM- Skipper Scott for a well played 93

πŸ’šπŸ Clackmannan away match report πŸπŸ’š

Tricky away day at county for Broomhall.

Broomhall travelled to Clacks on sat with the home side winning the toss and electing to bat.

Broomhall got off to an economical start not allowing the home side to accumulate however it would be the 12th over until Govinda got the first breakthrough and a well taken catch by Sonal. Govinda would strike again alongside Breeny to leave clacks 56-3 at drinks. A couple
Of missed opportunities shortly after would come back to bite as clacks would put on just shy of 150 for the next wicket. With a large slow outfield it was hard going chasing with smart strike rotation. Broomhall did get a cluster of wickets at the end with Rambo and Heoff getting in on the action and a run out from the skipper.

Our reply never really got off the ground with Jack, Breeny and Heoff all back in the hutch with 12 on the board. There was a period of stabilisation from Scott and Rambo however both would eventually fall to a strong bowling attack for 19 and 7. A couple of runs outs did not assist the collapse any further with Govinda finishing the not out batter on 6.

Tough day at the office against a very strong Clacks side. A lot take from the experience and the effort is there it is just getting the early season rust shaken off.

Next week we return back to the Cairns to take on Kinloch 2XI.

MOTM - Govinda Bowed taking his first league club wicket in a solid spell in tricky conditions as well as finishing not out.

πŸ’šπŸ Broomhall fall short in rainy run chase πŸπŸ’š

Broomhall hosted Perth Doocot 3XI at The Cairns on Saturday. Vice Skipper Breeny continued his tradition of losing the toss with the visitors electing to bat first on our short outfield (Big shout out to Phil Ward)

Although Perth did not make a blistering start they did weather feisty opening spells from Rambo and Sandy. It seemed pace off the ball was the key to remove the openers with the skipper breaking the deadlock closely followed by Phil both LBW. Broomhall remained in a good place with Perth around the 70 mark at drinks although with wickets in hand. After drinks the visitors came out with more purposed and powered by two middle order knocks of 45 and 47 began to push past 150. This was stunted however, with two quickfire wickets from Chris Clegg and a rare taken catch for the day by Rambo. Both opening bowlers did get their just rewards in their second spells with Sandy picking up two wickets and Rambo one.

Perth Finished the innings on 186 for 7

Broomhalls chase did not get off to the ideal start with 3 early wickets. Although the run rate was high initially led by a quickfire 37 by Jack, wickets did keep falling and a 56-5 it looked like Broomhall would fall well short of the mark. However a middle order fightback lead by Rambo and Sandy got us back on track seeing us comfortably ahead of the rate at drinks. Rambo eventually fell for 32 leaving Broomhall needing 67 runs for the last 3 wickets. The tall order was looking like it was a possibility thanks to the stoic batting of debutant Alfie . With intelligent rotation of the strike with Sandy the runs continued to flow however, Sandy was eventually trapped in front. Phil, MD and Alfie continued to push us towards the target but eventually we ran out of batters 18 runs shy.

Although it was not the desired result there are plenty of positives to take from the game in what still feels like the early stages of the season. We move onwards and upwards where we take the short trip west to take on Clackmannan on Saturday.

MOTM – Sandy for a strong bowling and batting performance

πŸ’šπŸ Match Report vs Clackmannan πŸπŸ’š

Apologies for the delay with admin being on holiday.

Broomhall CC endured a difficult afternoon against a strong Clacks side, eventually falling to a 133-run defeat after being bowled out for 69 in reply to Clackmannanshire’s 202 all out.

Despite the pressure during the first innings, there were some bright moments in the field for Broomhall. Joey Chalmers produced a nostalgic catch to dismiss Mehboob off the bowling of Neil Millar, while debutant Ankit Kumar announced himself with a sharp catch to remove Daddolu.

The bowling effort showed determination throughout, with wickets shared around the side as Broomhall stuck at the task against tough opposition. However, the missed chances proved costly.

Chasing 203 was always going to be a tall order, and Broomhall struggled to build partnerships against disciplined bowling. Clacks kept the pressure on throughout the innings, eventually bowling the hosts out for 69.

We go again with our next fixture hosting Perth Doocot 3XI on the 30th May.
