Race report
Round 6 No Limits Racing NLR - HQ Knockhill Racing Circuit
We were very excited coming into this round as we had never been to this circuit, but knew it was going to be interesting.
Thursday night we had the pleasure of a track walk with Max Alexander, which definitely helped us understand the tricky parts of the circuit.
Friday test day
The first few sessions were slow and steady to try and work out where we were going.
Then in the afternoon Steve concentrated on the main overtaking areas, trying to simulate going offline to make a pass, he was feeling confident until........... The final session of the day when he lost the rear at full lean out of the final corner and dropped the bike in one of the slowest crashes he has ever experienced. Bike Steve were both fine.
Saturday
Qualifying
As usual Steve went out near the front to minimise catching traffic, the first 3 laps were clear and he managed a 46.000 which put up P4 in class (P9 overall).
Race 1
Starting P9 on the grid.
Not a bad start but Ryan and Carl came past me on the power like I was stood still. On the approach to turn 3 there was a bike and rider sliding on the track, unfortunately I was boxed in and lost about 6 more places, it took the rest of the lap to compose myself, but I got my head down and made some brilliant overtakes on faster bikes to come over the line P6 in class (P11 overall).
Fastest lap time 56.867 puts me P11 on the grid for race 2.
I was happy with the result as the locals were so fast they were almost unbeatable.
We then got dressed up and went to see the boss Lisa Vickers and teammate Carl Vickers get married on the start line, this is not your average racing club π we then went on to cook the largest BBQ Scotland have ever seen π
Sunday (back to the racing)
Race 2
Starting P11 on the grid.
This time I had to get away with the front pack to avoid being stuck in a slower pack again, Initial launch was good, then the bike dropped back into neutral π‘ after all the panic and re engaging 2nd I tipped into turn 1 a couple of places short of last... So head down and start making moves. I was having a race to remember, every lap without fail there were overtakes on 3 or 4 corners, the only place I struggled was on the power over the start finish straight, so I was braking later and carrying more corner speed to make the moves count. The pit board came out about halfway through to show P4 and I thought that would be it, but then I could see Josh Crawford in the distance, with a solid fast lap I was up the inside of him into the hairpin. The last few laps we were having a good battle and on the last lap I thought he had the better of me when I was held up by a group of back markers, but a fast and defensive line into the hairpin meant I had him off and I'm coming home with a trophy from Scotland ππ
Fastest lap 56.037
Finished P3 (P13 Overall)
Race 3
Starting P11 on the grid.
Steady away and a few went past but I held my line into turn 1 to keep the other Pre Injection bikes within sight. While overtaking another on the exit of Clarke's on lap 1 the rear stepped out and made me think I could be pushing a bit too hard, I decided not to rush as the race was 14 laps and let the grip come back to me. The last few laps I managed to catch the group Infront and really enjoyed battling until the chequered flag.
Finished P5 (P13 overall)
Fastest lap 56.753
Absolutely mega weekend, I loved the track and didn't get hung up on lap times or beating the regular local riders, and this brought back the excitement we should feel when riding round and round like loony's π«£π I don't get to try new tracks very often and it really brought the excitement back into racing, this has however made me realise that competing in the same championship every year might not be the most enjoyable way to race π€·π»ββοΈ
We come away from Scotland with some solid points and a trophy, and slightly closer to CV Racing in P1 spot.
So with round 6 out of the way it's time to concentrate on Anglesey, last year I took my first ever race win there and was completing some really quick lap times, maybe I will get my first wet race of the year πποΈπ¨ππ¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦
Thanks to everyone for the support, advice and help throughout the race weekends.
