Well, it's not SO different to the AI pic I posted a little while back(?!)

The Dundee C TAFCA Division Two Champions, though this time joined by the proud captain. Pray a little indulgence, but it's the first time I've captained a team to a trophy, even if my contribution to the actual winning was minimal.

Take a bow, Keith Emery (e's a big lad ain't e?!) Ansh Bhakta, Katerina Tanzerova and Bill Boyd. Thoroughly deserved, and ready to take Division One by storm. Or at least a mild breeze. Congrats Guys πŸ€—

Congratulations to all our prizewinners at last night's TAFCA AGM at Castlehill Chess Club Dundee. We had Ansh Bhakta taking the J R Chalmers Memorial Grand Prix and the Online Singles Championship - a stellar debut season for the young man, going along with his victory at the Perth Minor Congress. Ana Belen Seijas Otero winning the Alastair Dawson President's Cup, Joshua Crofts taking the Newport and Kirkcaldy legs of the George Pyrich Memorial Allegro Championship on the way to winning the overall Championship. And Ed Spencer winning the TAFCA Online Allegro Championship. Champions all!

An excellent meeting too, and a well-deserved tribute to Ray Noble, stepping down as League Secretary after his sterling service. Ray will certainly still be very active in TAFCA without a doubt! Best Wishes to Daniel Coleman who will take over from Ray, and Colin Young who will step into Daniel's shoes as Treasurer. Great also to see Dundee Matriarch Jean Chalmers back at her old stomping grounds, contributing to chess business.

Another great TAFCA season, thanks to the fabulous organisers and committee, and of course, to all the players and members. See you next season πŸ€—

A reminder of tomorrow's TAFCA AGM, a chance to have your say on the burning issues affecting our flourishing league. Also a chance to form a security detail for Ansh as he picks up most of the trophies.

The 76th TAFCA AGM - Thursday 4th June 26 - Castlehill Chess Club

Hi Everybody

The TAFCA season has come to an end, and our 76th TAFCA AGM will take place on Thursday, 4th June 2026, 7:30 pm at Castlehill Chess Club.

As always, this is an important meeting as it is where all our decisions are made for the 2026-27 season. Your league, your voice, your decisions! It is also where we present all the TAFCA trophies to the winners, so if you, as a club or individual, have won something, then please try to turn up to be presented with them, or get someone to pick them up for you.

I hope to see as many of you as possible at this meeting, but if you cannot make it, can you let me know?

We are also looking for people to join the TAFCA committee as we have a few posts still vacant, and we could do with "NEW BLOOD" as a lot of us are well past our prime!

Posts that need to be filled
General Secretary
Minute Secretary
Also, I am stepping down as League Fixture Secretary as I have started my withdrawal from organising and cutting back on the many jobs I do. It`s time for new blood to take over. I have a replacement in Daniel Coleman, but of course, the post is open to everyone who wishes to put themselves forward. I have enjoyed my time serving TAFCA as League fixture secretary, and it`s been my pleasure serving TAFCA in this role, but it is time to move on.

Regards

Ray Noble
TAFCA League Secretary

More huge congratulations. This time to Vlad Drabych. Winner of a tremendously strong Perth Major Championship (u1800), with an unbeaten 6/7, a full point clear of the field.

Technically more a Castlehill Chess Club Dundee player, but a Dundee Chess Club member too, and as he said, we can certainly claim him as a Dundee City double along with Ansh. Vlad's feat is illustrated by his tournament performance rating of 2029. Well played young man πŸ€—

A very special mention also to everyone's favourite, Katarina Tanzerova. Kat actually started the tournament as top seed, with a (as she readily points out) somewhat artificial FIDE rating of 1908. But her start to the tournament made that look like an under-rating. She soared to 4/4 early on, with wins against players rated from 1600 to 1840, before falling back to an eventual 4Β½/7, just a half-point away from the prizes. Kat has roared back from a horrible accident during the Glasgow congress, which has left her on crutches since, but has been magnificent in fighting her way back, playing at Aberdeen, SNCL, club tournaments and matches, and now here, and is happily well on the way to full recovery πŸ₯°

Well done also to Keith Emery, Senior Grading Prize winner in the Major, on 4/7.

Well played to everyone who came, saw, conquered or just took part. Another fabulous Perth Congress, thanks to the Salutation Hotel, Director David Clayton, arbiters John McNicoll, Andy and Karen Howie, and all the many assistants who are the backbone of all congresses. Many Thanks to you all 😊

Huge Congratulations to Ansh Bhakta, adding to an already tremendous season by winning the Perth Congress Minor with a fabulous 6Β½/7 score. A very tough schedule of three games a day on Saturday and Sunday didn't deter our Player of the Year, as he raced to 6/6 before taking the draw he needed in the last round. Added to his other successes, the young man will need a security detail to get his trophies and medals home at the end of the season.

Well done Ansh. All at Dundee Chess Club are very proud πŸ€—

Two Club Champoins crowned, the D Team earning their first TAFCA points of the season, and another crammed junior session downstairs. Even by our standards, a pretty eventful evening. Pleased too to see several potential new members, looking very keen.

Congratulations to David Findlay, winning his umpteenth Club Championship in absentia, as defending champion Jacques, needing a win, went down to Sven. A remarkable end to the first Premier style Championship, the Scottish Football Premiership got nothing on us.

And take a bow Ansh Bhakta, the first Intermediate Champion in our new style setup. It's been a remarkable debut season for the hugely likeable Ansh, who has captured hearts, plaudits and multiple trophies and medals since coming to the club last year. His last round win against Ana typified his fighting style that has served him so well. More to come we're sure.

The D Team have been in the doldrums this season, but burst into life in the final match. A key factor was finally being able to field the Kemp father and son duo, with Magnus now coming of an age to play.

That's the competitive season largely over, but presentations and AGMs to come, and then the start of our Summer Season, where our friendly allegro nights prove so popular. Always a great night at the club that never closes (well, except at Christmas😊)
