It has been a busy week for all at Ferry once again, the boys playing last Sunday and then training midweek. Iain & Russ from the Yellows coaching team completed their First Aid Certifications and passed on Thursday night. (That's my excuse for the late post!)

Sunday past, both teams were involved in the League Cup; the draw paired tier 1 Yellows with tier 3 Carnoustie & tier 3 Blues with a very strong tier 1 Monifieth side.

Ferry Ath Yellows πŸ’› 12
Carnoustie Panmure πŸ”΄ 0

On a "drookit" Sunday in Carnoustie, both sides started well. Carnoustie were bright in the early stages with some good counter-attacking play as Ferry toiled to get going in the opening 15 minutes. Ferry would open the scoring through Jay Sutherland in 25 minutes, which was quickly followed by a goal for Ellis Lee, assisted by good running and a pass from Callum Murray on the left.
Callum would provide another assist at the half-hour mark this time for Luca Keith to score the 3rd.
Flynn Machlachlan completed the first half scoring with Luca getting his assist.
Half-Time 4-0, but with the Carnoustie goalkeeper having some great saves and a scoreline that flattered the visitors in a close game.
In the 2nd half, Ferry found another gear, Callum Murray dribbling through the Carnoustie defence for the 5th, Findlay Logan scoring the 6th assisted by Jay, before Camden Winter with a rare goal for the 7th and a fun celebration that I'm sure meant dad and coach Jamie needed to pay out the goal bonus!
Carnoustie continued to counterattack and tested goalkeeper Euan Duncan on two occasions, unlucky to get a goal for their efforts.
Ellis Lee assisted Findlay Logan for the 8th before Harris Moonlight set up Findlay for the 9th. Harris would then go from provider to scorer with a powerful burst from midfield and a good solo run for number 10. Harris then turned creator again, supplying a pass for Callum Murray to score.
Just before the end, Findlay won the ball wide right and fired in from 20 yards to complete the scoring.
Carnoustie gave a good account of themselves in the game, two divisions apart is a tough ask for players, but in particular, the Carnoustie tall no.5 at the back was very good, along with the keeper saving many shots. A mention for the Ferry rear guard for the last 20 - Felix Ross, Theo Westwood, Alan Roebuck & Jayden Jackson, who allowed the attacking players lots of freedom & helped keep a clean sheet.
-
Monifieth Blues played the Ferry Blues πŸ’™ in another 2 tier difference match; Ferry were always going to be in for a tough morning with the Monifieth Blues side challenging near the top of Division 1 (having beaten Ferry Yellows in August 5-0).
Ferry would battle and tried their best on the day, but were simply outclassed by a great side. Although exiting the cup, the game provided an exceptional test with the pick of the Ferry Blues being Andrew Crawford, Euan Beckham & Rory Cura.
-
This week on the 2nd Nov, our Yellows head to play St Andrews Colts Reds while the Blues are at home to Monifieth Reds.

With the "October break" or "Tattie Holidays" (for anyone over 40, haha) done and dusted, the teams returned to league action this Sunday past. For the eagle-eyed among you, we are delighted to announce 2 further club sponsors - Xeretec & SDB Contracts (more to come on these 2 companies soon).

The Yellows hosted Dundee West at Dawson. Last time out, Dundee West secured a narrow 2-1 win; however, this time the boys battled out a draw and secured a league point in the process.

The game started out closely contested as in previous games, with only a few minutes gone, Ferry opened the scoring, Jay Sutherland winning possession, passing to Harris Moonlight, who slipped a good through ball to Flynn MacLachlan, who made no mistake with the early chance. Harris would continue to win the ball in midfield alongside Alan Roebuck, both players trying to close down and get the ball wide wherever possible. Flynn MacLachlan would again test the West goalkeeper after 20 minutes.
Dundee West were very much in the game and in the closing stage of the 1st half found the equaliser.
In the 2nd half, the game was very much a midfield battle, with occasional attacks foiled by good blocking by Camden Winter, excellent cover from Ellis Lee and fullbacks Max McVeigh, Jayden Jackson and recent new signing Jamie Steele all having to put in a shift! Euan Duncan pulled off a couple of fine stops to prevent West snatching a win and Harris Moonlight headed narrowly wide from a Callum Murray corner near the end.

Final Score: Ferry Yellows πŸ’› 1 Dundee West 1
---
In the 3rd division, the Ferry Blues really found some form.
The opening 15 minutes had the game relatively evenly contested before Kai McGurty sent Euan Beckham through on goal. Euan was fouled by the Forfar goalie, resulting in a penalty. The kick was missed, however, minutes later Euan would send Kai a delightful pass that he volleyed into the back of the net.
Kai was causing Forfar problems and just before the half-hour mark, was fouled on the edge of the box. Midfielder Rory Cura stepped up and smashed a high shot into the net to make it 2-0.
Ferry went into the break 2 up, but in the 2nd half found another gear, another free kick from Rory didn't quite go in, however, the rebounding ball fell to Euan Beckham to make it 3-0, before Jayce Craig hit a powerful drive, deflecting into the net, making it 4-0.
Euan Beckham made it 5-0, winning a 50/50 with the Forfar keeper ahead of turning provider with an assist for Liam Williamson to roll in number 6.
The scoring was completed with what is becoming an occasional trademark thunderbolt! from Callan Barrie.
Great stuff from the Blues and well done to Blues GK Ethan Shields on the clean sheet 🧀

Final Score: Ferry Blues πŸ’™ 7 Forfar Ath Blacks 0

MINI MATCH REPORT
Apologies, thought I had posted this one last Sunday!

EAST REGION CUP
Ferry Athletic Yellows 2
Raith Rovers 2 (won on penalties)

Last weekend, our Blues had a "bye" into the next round, leaving only our Yellows in action against Raith Rovers.
Ferry raced out of the blocks with the midfield winning early possession and feeding Luca Keith wide right. Luca strode forward 5 or 6 yards before unleashing a superb 30-yard strike into the net for the opener.
Raith fought back well and after 10 minutes won a corner and from the resulting set piece scored an equaliser.
Raith continued to press and forced Euan Duncan into three saves, including two good free-kick saves.
Just before half-time, Ferry managed to get a grip of the game again, and a great ball from Ellis Lee sent Jay Sutherland in on goal, with Jay finishing well to give Ferry a 2-1 lead at the halfway stage.
The 2nd half was fought mainly in the middle of the park with chances at a premium, Ellis Lee getting a good last man tackle to prevent Raith before Callum Murray and Luca Keith shooting wide - both unable to extend Ferry's lead, before Raith equalised.
Ferry would press continually for the last 5 minutes, but could not find a winner. In the final minute, Raith counterattacked and could have won the game if not for a goal-line clearance from Max McVeigh.
Full time 2-2, the match then resulted in penalties with the Raith keeper saving 2 of the Ferry kicks to send the lads from Fife through to the next round.

Scottish Cup πŸ† - Match Report 2 of 2!

Fantastic Ferry's "F-Men' Hit Form!

Ferry Athletic Yellows πŸ’› 7
Brechin City πŸ”΄βšͺ️ 2

Alliteration above ^ at its finest πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚ and so were the Ferry's Yellows today πŸ˜ƒ
"The Scottish" provided both teams a welcome break from league duties, with both teams playing in the same division (yet to meet in 11-a-side), but having challenging starts to the season.
-
Ferry would race out of the blocks, Jay Sutherland would assist Findlay Logan to score with only a few minutes on the clock.
Brechin tried to hit back immediately with an attack, but Luca Keith would foil the Brechin wide man, sprinting back, winning the ball, playing a great through-ball for Alan Roebuck to shoot wide. Alan would minutes later return the favour, putting a good ball through for Luca, narrowly missing the target to make it 2.
Luca was having a good game wide right, whipping crosses in creating chances; however, he would also display great defensive awareness with a last-man tackle, preventing a Brechin goal after 15minutes.
Euan Duncan was called into action with a solid stop before Ellis Lee played a wonderful pass, assisting Felix Ross to score, making it 2-0.
Almost straight from the kick-off, Alan and Ellis would combine to win the ball back from Brechin, releasing Jay Sutherland, Jay bursting from midfield, then assisted Felix Ross in scoring the 3rd.
In arguably "the move of the game," Ellis Lee played another great through-ball, this time finding Luca, who would then drive and whip in a wonderful delivery that Findlay Logan dispatched at the back post to make it 4-0.
With half-time fast approaching, Brechin countered, a fast attack would result in Euan having to produce a fine stop.
Directly after saving, Euan kicked long, Felix Ross would control brilliantly before running through and completing his hat-trick.
Half Time: 5-0
-
Brechin started the 2nd half on the front foot, a goal-line headed clearance from Ellis Lee and a solid stop again from Euan would precede Brechin getting a deserved goal for continuing to try and attack around 50 minutes.
On a day that it seemed if your name began with"F" you might score, Flynn Maclachlan would prove the theory correct πŸ˜‚
Harris Moonlight assisting Flynn for a cool finish to score Ferry's 6th! Minutes later, Flynn rattled the post with the rebound, unable to be converted as Jay Sutherland fired wide just before Alan Roebuck fired over the bar from 25 yards.
With full-time approaching, Theo Westwood would shoot wide, before Flynn would set up Findlay Logan, who would complete his hat-trick and help the admin create a memorable headline (Ok, I stretched that haha!).
Brechin would get one last attack, resulting in another well-deserved goal for their efforts and never giving up.
A good cup win for the Yellows, played out fairly and competitively by both teams. We will see Brechin again in league business, home and away, for hopefully more good games.
Into the hat we go for the next round.

Scottish Cup πŸ† Match Report 1 of 2!

With it being the Scottish Cup (and admin having a spare half hour, I think the boys deserve a report post each today!)

"Brilliant Becks Goes Berserk!"

Ferry Athletic Blues πŸ’™ 4
Jeanfield Swifts 2

A brilliant start for Ferry Blues in the cup with Sam Trueland assisting Euan Beckham after 2 minutes to put Ferry in front.
Jeanfield fought back and, after 12 minutes, got their reward for some attacking football, equalising.
Ferry would then score again, and Euan Beckham would have the ball in the back of the net, but bizarrely, it was disallowed.
Euan joins "Paddy Connolly" in Scottish football folklore for "ghost" πŸ‘» goals (for those younger than 40-ish...you can Google Paddy, his video has 4.7m views on YT lol)
With the game being contested competitively, Sam Trueland would earn himself a yellow card for a crunching tackle.
With the game edging towards the half-hour mark, Jeanfield scored in a counter-attack to go 2-1 up.
With Ferry trailing, the team found another gear, and in particular
Euan Beckham produced yet another talismanic performance for the team. Euan would equalise in 38 minutes with good work from Rory Cura in assisting, score a 3rd in 43 minutes with Sam Trueland assisting again to put Ferry into the lead, before Callan Barrie would set "Brilliant Becks" up for his 4th of the game just after the hour mark. Euan would score again, but had a 2nd goal disallowed on the day just before full-time.
A solid performance from the Blues, with Austin Low having his best game of the season, putting in a great shift.
A great win and a double celebration, with it being player Liam Williamson's birthday. Happy birthday, Liam πŸŽ‚πŸŽ - "Becks" might give you an autographed matchball as a pressie 🀣
FT Score: A 4-2 win & into the draw for the 2nd round the Blues go.

Weekend Mini Match Reports

Ferry Athletic Yellows 0
Montrose Youth 7

A trip to high-flying Montrose at the weekend would see the Yellows once again meet with the coastal wind and rain and a superb Montrose side.
Historically, this has always been a tough fixture with a 3-3 draw, Ferry's best result in the past three seasons.
Montrose were straight out of the blocks, looking sharper and hungrier from the kick-off, 1-nil after 25 seconds, 2-nil before two minutes were on the clock, Ferry were up against it and only a great save from keeper Euan Duncan prevented it being 3 before three minutes! Jayden Jackson would get in a great last-man tackle, and Euan saved a further 2 shots with Montrose pressing hard.
Ferry tried to get back in the game and Felix Ross played 2 great passes into the final third, but Ferry were unable to capitalise.
Max McVeigh would be next up to get a last-man block in before Montrose would score a 3rd before half-time.
In the second half, Montrose would step up a gear, with Ferry unable to match the pace and power of their hosts. Euan made a brilliant double save, Ellis Lee had an essential goal preventing clearance, before Montrose scored four more goals in relatively quick succession.
Euan would take his shot on target "save count" to seven before the game finished. A tough day learning as the boys continue to adapt to 11-a-side football.
---------
Kirrie Thistle Youth 5
Ferry Athletic Blues 3

The Blues ventured to the land of "Peter Pan" and "Starry Rock" with table-topping Kirrie in fine form and hosting Ferry.
A fairly frantic opening 10 minutes would see Kirrie with an absolutely rapid striker proving a real menace to the Ferry defence and getting their reward by opening the scoring.
Ferry would hit back almost instantly, Kai McGurty would swing a corner in with in-form defender Andrew Crawford nicking in at the near post to score.
Kirrie would score again after 25 minutes - again the striker causing chaos for the Ferry defence with his blistering pace.
Ferry continued to battle and Callan Barrie scored a great, delicate chip to leave the Kirrie keeper stranded.
The game would ebb and flow with both teams showing plenty of attacking intent.
Ferry would go in front for the only time in the game, with striker Euan Beckham continuing his fabulous form, scoring with a good assist from Daniel Velikov.
The Ferry lead, somewhat sparked a home team revival, Kirrie scoring 3 without further Ferry response despite the best ball-winning efforts of Andrew Crawford and Rory Cura.
Ferry would try and press, Leroy Maynard & Liam Williamson combining well together on the left of the pitch but could not score a 4th to make it a frantic finish.
