Whether you prefer fly fishing for trout, or fishing with bait,

both are available on the four well-stocked fishing pools. Forbes of Kingennie golf course opened in August 2007 and has matured greatly in the following years. The golf course surrounds the resort, fishing ponds and lodges and provides beautiful panoramic views over the Tay estuary towards Fife. The facilities which support the course include a driving range with an incorporated Junior 5 hole short course and a practice bunker area. There is also our U.S.G.A specification 18 hole "Cairngorms" putting green which is truly unique, fun and a test for anyone, it is modelled on the famous Scottish mountain range and includes 2 water hazards! Currently under construction we have a practice putting green adjacent to the first tee, this is due to open in 2014. The Angus Thistle maze has matured greatly over the last few years and is now a real challenge for children and adults alike.

Good morning anglers,

For those that have not met them yet, let me introduce you to the newest family at the Kingennie ponds, our beautiful Kingennie swans.

Speaking of families, brings yours down for a day out on what is looking to be a gorgeous summers day, there is the slightest of breezes, clear blue skies, already at 14 degrees and don’t worry, that big golden ball in the sky is the sun….its been a while since we’ve seen it.

The fly ponds are still fishing well, floating fry and small dries seeing most returns with most action being on the top. We’ve had some high returns with our member Scott in pole position with 17 and Grant just behind him with 13.

The bait pond is fulfilling the majority of anglers tickets and we have only 1 blank out of 16 anglers, the blank only happened due the torrential rain that hit us and the young lad was not keen on staying. Worms, banana or plum powerbait are the top hitters.

Our fridge and confectionery counter are full, freezer full of ice creams for all ages and of course, our bait fridge is full of worms.

Good afternoon anglers,

A double dose of happiness for this young lad on our bait pond this weekend, he came down for a fishing lesson and left a pro. Learning the techniques of fishing from our instructor Gordon, he put his new skills to task and it clearly worked.
If you want to learn the basics or brush up on your skills, we offer both bait and fly lessons on a Wednesday 12pm-4pm and a Friday 3pm-8pm, give us a call on 01382350777 or drop us an email at [email protected]

We are now underway with our pond maintenance schedule ensuring clear pathways and good clearance of reeds and w**ds at the pegs giving room for casting without hooking a reed rather than a fish. We will be out around the ponds keeping on top of this throughout the summer months.

We will be organising our w**d cutter to come back into the Woodside bait pond to clear the pond making sure your spinners do not get tied up and deceive you into thinking you have got into a monster 😂

Top baits and flies

Bait pond - silver spinners and worms
Fly ponds - shipmans buzzer, yellow dancers, small lures and CDC’s

Good morning anglers,

The fish were up earlier than me getting some good feed off the top, plenty action and rises from the Woodside bait pond. The water is clear and calm with the only ripples being caused by the trout and swans.

The forecast isn’t looking fantastic but if anglers are good at one thing, thats preparation and fishing in all weather. The showers have kept a good flow from the burn into the Boathouse pond and bringing in fresh, oxygenated water to the ponds keeping the trout active and energised.

5 anglers down yesterday with 20 fish out in the few hours before the weather broke and 3 on the bait pond with 5 fish to the dinner plate.

We have plenty worms, powerbait and flies to fill your tackle box, coffee and tea at the ready and the kitchen is an order away for your filled rolls, we hope to see you soon.

Good morning anglers,

It has been a great weekend down at Kingennie on all of our ponds with the majority of visitors getting their ticket filled on the Woodside bait pond and many double figures from the fly ponds.

We had 18 fish out the bait pond on a variety of tackle but the top hitters have been the trusty worm and green/yellow banana or liver powerbait.

On the fly ponds, top of the water on dries is working very well with sedge patterns, black hoppers and shuttlecocks being the top flies to try. Buzzers are also working very well and washing line set up with FABS are a great tactic and midge lines are best. Pulling tactics are also working at certain times with small lures and the deadly snakes taking plenty of fish on the Burnside. With the fresh stocking, it will stir the ponds up and all bright flies will work well for a few days before returning to more traditional natural offerings.

We seen 74 fish returned from the net between the Boathouse and Burnside Fly ponds with a rod average of 5.2. The Woodside bait pond seen 18 fish removed with a rod average of 2.1.

The pictures are all out of our fly ponds with some beautiful examples of the fish you can land here at Kingennie Fishings.

Good afternoon anglers,

Another working week comes to an end and now it’s time to get your rods, reels and tackle ready and head on down to our ponds. We have put a fresh stocking into all our ponds again to keep those returns high, lines tight and smiles on anglers faces.

All three ponds are seeing great action on the top and the rises just don’t stop. The Woodside bait pond has seen lots of returns with the worm up to 3 foot down, banana and liver powerbaits are hitting well too.

The Boathouse and Burnside trout are fighting hard on the line with dark olive or black buzzer working best. Cats whiskers, olive humongus and sedge’s are also working very well with all seeing double digits to the net.

For the bait pond, we have a fridge full of worms and enough powerbait to last the season. For the fly ponds, we have a great selection of flies for you to chose from if you don’t have enough in your boxes.

We can’t wait to see you, coffee machine will be ready, the restaurant a stones through away for your filled rolls or bigger plates for when your needing a rest from fighting those fish.

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Family Fishing Competition today! It was great seeing so many new faces & welcoming back those who have been before. 🎣🐟

Good evening anglers,

Are you ready for the weekend? We are and have a fresh stocking into our Woodside bait pond and both the Boathouse and Burnside fly ponds.

We had planned for our w**d cutting to be done this week but with the cooler start to the year, there has been virtually no growth. We went out with him and inspected the pond and agreed it would have brought no benefit at this time so we have rescheduled this to be done nearer the end of June/start of July. We will give you all an update when dates have been set so you know when he will be here.

Remember we are having our family fun day tomorrow on the Woodside pond with the details below. You can fish the pond 8am-11am and 5pm-9pm and we will return to normal on Sunday. The fly ponds are open as per usual times.

Looking for a fun day out with the family? Join us for our Family Fishing Competition from 11am-5pm!

Entry: £15 per family

What you need to know:
• Catch and release only
• Bring your own rods
• All rods must have barbless hooks (available to purchase at the shop)

Prize: The winning family (most fish caught) will receive a FREE weekend fishing and Cairngorms putting family voucher.

To book your spot, email [email protected]

Gather your family and see who can reel in the win!

Good afternoon anglers,

Been another great week down on all the ponds. The Burnside in particular is bringing some healthy numbers with some cracking looking fish with some recording some serious size fish.

The Woodside has sent three youngsters away home with smiles as they walk away with their 1st fish. Please remember when you’re down to alter the height of your float and change pegs to get the best chance of seeing the fish on your dinner plate.

We have a fridge full of fresh worms and shelves full of power bait, mice tails and spinners to chose from.

Good morning anglers,

The last peg on the Burnside fly pond has had a massive overhaul. We have added new main supports, new steps, all new slats, Astro, grip strips placed and rubber matting.

The fly ponds have been fishing unbelievably well. Grant, one of our members complained he only managed 24 in a few hours….ill take those complaints all day long. Rod average is currently sitting at 12 fish per session and many happy anglers with many more to come.

We’ve already had a bait angler down today, 5 fish ticket, 50 minutes later, another 5 and just over an hour later another 5….his freezer will be full for a wee while after today’s session.

Get down and see if you can beat the current April fly record of 29 fish and 15 from the bait pond.
