For decades, women have been expected to just “get on with it” when menopause showed up, symptoms were played down or covered up, conversations around it simply didn’t happen and so many women entered this stage of life with no real clue what to expect or indeed how to manage. Fortunately, that is changing, talking about it with friends, partners, family, colleagues & employers is becoming more common, but we still need a more informed approach.
As a Health & Fitness Trainer who holds a Menopause Coaching Certificate I am fully aware that while there are now widely recognised symptoms of menopause, no two women will experience exactly the same thing.
We may struggle with the most publicised problems like lack of interest in intimacy, night sweats & poor quality sleep. We might experience mood changes, lack of concentration, or depleted self confidence. Trying to maintain our professional performance can be the biggest challenge creating even more stress bringing with it unexplained headaches or neck & shoulder stiffness. It is not uncommon either to find that none of the symptoms mentioned above are known to you but you do suffer from excruciating vaginal discomfort, bladder and or bowel changes, the list continues with things such as dental pain, losing confidence in your driving abilities. This is why one-size-fits-all advice is just not good enough.
Effective menopause coaching begins by listening.
A good coach helps the client identify what is affecting her most and creates a tailored programme of exercises and lifestyle changes that fit into her daily life with ease. This might include tips on how to limit and manage stress, easy movements to boost your mood, nutrition & hydration advice and the big one - emotional support. Here at Tiger Health and Fitness I simply create a private space where you as the client can feel safe, understood and supported.
