Want to become slow as a week in the jail and breeze past anyone?

Then definitely don't do these exercises..... Only joking...

To become quicker there are 4 Pilar's to success for Grant Health and Fitness.

1. Explosive single leg strength
Single leg exercises that are explosive in nature to force the nervous system to recruit high threshold motor units and produce force quicker, sprinting is predominantly a unilateral exercise as each leg produces and absorbs the force to sprint. Liao et al. 2022 states that unilateral and bilateral strength.

2. Plyometrics
Plyometrics to improve the stretch shortening cycle jumping through both feet and single legs. This is shown to improve sprinting, reactive strength and ability to change direction. Around 3/4 exposures per week is proven to be the best.

3. Strong hip flexors and Hamstrings
Strengthen your hip flexors and hamstrings through isolated exercises such as knee drives and Nordic curls. The hip flexors play a key role in driving the knee forwards producing force and the hamstrings help to absorb force at high end speed. Training your hip flexors have shown to increase a 40yard sprint over 8 weeks. and Nordics are the gold standard exercise for hamstring health and help to support the 4gh pillar.

4. Sprint exposure
Sprinting weekly for most around 2 sessions per week so covering 6 x 10-30m accelerations in 1 session and 6x flying sprints or 30-40m max velocity sprints. Each rep should have around 2-5mins rest between depending on the athlete.

Research shows that sprint-specific training improves sprint performance, while repeated-sprint training can also improve acceleration, speed and repeated-sprint ability. Rumpf et al., 2016 and Thurlow et al., 2024

You don’t become rapid by doing random drills until you’re exhausted.

The Team smashed it again tonight in Tuesdays G-ROX class.

Another brilliant effort from everyone who came along. If you have been thinking of coming along now is the time to get involved.

A massive well done to our members who continue to show up week after week, not just for themselves but for each other. Watching everyone push, encourage and help each other through the classes at Grant Health and Fitness.

The atmosphere tonight was insane, I turned around in a rehab session and had to pinch myself. There was around 20 people on the gym floor from those in the GROX class to members getting it done and PTs with their clients. I do have to pinch myself and appreciate what we are building here.

I can't thank you people as members for trusting me to provide an environment that is for all and the PTs for trusting me to allow them to do there thing on the gym floor helping people achieve excellence week after week.

This is not the start and it's not the end either. It is just another night where we hopefully made a tiny positive impact on people to better themselves.

TUESDAY NIGHT PILATES AT GRANT HEALTH AND FITNESS

Looking to improve your core strength, mobility, flexibility and balance while taking some time out for yourself? Our Tuesday night Pilates class could be exactly what you need.

Whether you’re completely new to Pilates or have done it before, all levels are welcome. The session is designed to help you move better, build strength and control, improve posture and leave feeling better than when you walked in.
