Think about how you actually move through life.

You reach across the car.

You twist to lift something.

You turn to pick up your kids.

Nothing in real life moves in a straight line.

But most men train like it does.

Chest day.

Back day.

Leg day.

Everything isolated.

Everything in one plane.

And then they wonder why they feel stiff, unbalanced and like their body isn't working the way it should.

This is a cable rotation exercise.

It builds rotational strength and stability — two things that become critical as we age.

Because after 35 it's not just about how strong you are pushing forward or pulling back.

It's about how well your body can control movement in every direction.

Upper body and lower body working together.

The way they were designed to.

Train like this consistently and you move better.

Feel better.

Stay injury free longer.

That's the goal after 35.

Not just strong.

Strong in every direction life throws at you.

Save this.

Add it to your next session. ⚔️

Training after 35 hits different.

It needs to be if we want to stay strong and mobile for as long as possible.

So here's 6️⃣ things to do if your over 35:

1️⃣ Stop maxing out every session — train for longevity not ego

2️⃣ Add compound movements that work multiple muscles together

3️⃣ Prioritise mobility and movement quality alongside strength

4️⃣ Walk more — it's not cardio, it's maintenance

5️⃣ Recover like it's part of the programme — because it is

6️⃣ Train for what your body needs to do in life — not just how it looks standing still (this one is gold)

If you're a Dundee man over 35:

⚔️ who wants to get stronger
⚔️ who needs to build a training routine
⚔️ who needs accountability

Then let's have a chat.

My gym is 100% private.

Its time for you to get forged.

When he first walked into Forged he'd never touched a weight in his life.

Skinny.

Low strength.

Years of cardio and nothing to show for it.

He didn't come in asking for a six pack.

He came in because he wanted to feel stronger.

That was a few years ago.

Today he knocks out pull ups like a man.

Benches 80kg for reps.

Presses the 35kg dumbbells.

And hangs from that bar for over a minute.

Not because he found some secret programme.

Because he showed up.

Consistently.

And trusted the process.

And he still does at 8am most mornings.

This is what training for strength actually looks like.

Not a transformation photo.

A man who can do things he couldn't do before.

That's what we build at Forged at the Edge.

If you're a man over 35 in Dundee and you want to start building — DM me.

Men over 40

Blame age all the time

"Maybe it's too late"

"My metabolism is slowing down"

"My testosterone is low"

When the truth is often this:

Your standards are s**t

You're not in your 20's anymore

So you can't get away with half arsing it

If you want to maintain your tissue

Stay strong

And be in the best shape possible

And that comes down to standards

We all know it!

I'm not going to BS you

It's going to be harder

And you'll have to be more diligent

BUT you can still have a body to be proud of after 40 and beyond

But the work needs to start now

Because most of you are already behind

And unfortunately, time is winning the race

And only you can take control

We can't change your age

But we can change your standards

Should you really be doing 10,000 steps?

The number itself has no real significance

It was purely a marketing ploy created during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics by a Japanese company to sell a pedometer called "Manpo-kei"

Which translated as 10,000 step meter

And it's been used as an "ideal" target in the fitness industry ever since!

But a more recent study found that

7000 steps a day could be enough to protect you from a range of diseases and boost brain power

Including:

Cardiovascular disease risk ⬇️ by 20%

Cancer ⬇️ by 6%

Dementia ⬇️ by 38%

And depression ⬇️ by 22%

Now I'd argue that 7000 steps is more doable for the majority of people

Than 10,000

But the study even showed that 4000 steps

Showed better health improvements than 2000 steps per day

So even though we should take these findings with a pinch of salt

The take home message is clear

10,000 steps is w**k!

Instead, focus on walking more in general

And make it part of your daily routine

The health benefits are clear

And it's something I've been promoting for a long time!

Just get out and walk more

Your body will thank you for it!

You're not where you want to be

Life always feels like its "happening to you"

Instead of for you

It can constantly feel like a struggle

But I want to share a reframe I adopted a while ago

And I hope it helps you

Here it is:

"I am doing the best I can with what I have and where I'm at"

That's it!

Now, that's not a line for complacency

It's an affirmation that recognises you may not have everything figured out

That life may be challenging right now

And you may not be sure of the path forward

But THAT'S OKAY

We'll never have everything figured out

What's far more important is that you keep moving forward

Keep doing the things you enjoy

Move your body

Challenge yourself

And be around people who support you

Do the best you can

With what you have

With where you're at

That's all you can do

And always remember this

Your life right now is someone else's dream

Find some room to enjoy it
