While being very busy with foaling I did something else π. Partbreds are something I have been keen to breed for years. So here they are, my gorgeous gentle girls. Both have already had hot dates with Lochy π₯°
β BTRC Truffles & Candy β¨
These two beautiful girls headed off for their new life in Scotland earlier this month, and itβs safe to say they have settled in incredibly well π
Both mares were supported by their responsible racing owners during the majority of their time at the BTRC, and we are very grateful for that continued commitment to their futures. As part of our work, every horse is individually assessed to ensure they are given the most suitable and sustainable outcome beyond racing.
As many of you understand, not every horse that comes through BTRC is suited to our ridden rehoming programme. While we regularly rehome companion horses, we also have some mares who, following specific assessment and veterinary health checks for the role including ovarian scans to ensure suitability to carry a foal, are suitable to be rehomed as broodmares.
This loaning process is exactly the same as all of our rehoming options β with thorough pre-homing checks, references, and ongoing reviews and support in place.
We are very selective about the homes these mares go to, and with the small number currently placed in broodmare homes, they cannot be bred with a Thoroughbred but instead are often crossed with native breeds such as Connemara's. In this case, Truffles and Candy have gone to a wonderful small farm where they will run with Highland pony stallions. π
The most important factor when deciding if a mare is suitable to be a mummy, is temperament and whether they would enjoy the lifestyle - Both these girls have shown the most genuine, kind temperaments during their time with us, and we believe they will make fantastic mums and enjoy the natural lifestyle that this home offers.
We are delighted that these two lovely mares will now have the opportunity to thrive in such a beautiful environment, enjoying a suitable and secure future. While this is not our most common rehoming pathway, we believe this is the right one for them both and it's just fantastic to see them going together to keep each other company. β€
We canβt wait to share updates in the future β and hopefully see some lovely foals π΄β¨
