SOUTHERNESS
Southerness is a championship quality, natural links golf course which provides an excellent challenge for all levels of golfer. The course is situated in a fantastic part of South West Scotland located between the beauty of Criffel to the North and the shimmering Solway Firth to the south which leads to panoramic views of Cumbrian and Galloway hills and, on a good day, the Isle of Man. The clubhouse and staff provide a warm welcome and the first class facilities enhance the visitor experience.
Southerness was designed by McKenzie Ross and opened for play in 1947 and has now been managed by the current Head Greenkeeper for over 25 years. This period of stability has produced a superb golf course which has earned an enviable reputation and has hosted many national and international events over the past 30 years.
The course terrain is level allowing for easy walking with no hills to climb. It is totally remote from large centres of population which gives a feeling of being well away from the rat race. This is enhanced by the course design which means that players are seldom aware of others on the course. Members and visitors enjoy their golf all year round.
The fairways are generous and in superb condition and the greens are a delight to putt on. The rough is graded from light to punishing. A good drive will be rewarded but beware the wild hook or slice since you might not see your ball again. Southerness will test the skill of champions and give pleasure to all – a true hidden gem.

Our Golf Course of the Month
*****Dumfries & Galloway Golf Club*****
Founded in 1880, Dumfries & Galloway Golf Club is a championship parkland course measuring 6222 yards from the medal tees.
It has a par 70 with a standard scratch of 71.
The course was designed by Willie Fernie, who won the Open Championship in 1883 at Mussleburgh, and was the first professional attached to our Club.
The Club hosts an annual Pro-Am over 2 days every August which is enjoyed greatly by Members and Sponsors alike and attracts all of the top professionals on the Scottish PGA circuit.

Our Course of the Month is......
✨ Lochmaben Golf Club ✨
Famous for its wildlife and picturesque views of the Kirk Loch, Lochmaben Golf Course is a challenging experience for any golfer. The course is one of the best examples of a parkland course in the area, is very well kept and, due to the excellent drainage work the greens staff have put in , golf is available all year round.
Located only 4 miles from the M74, Lochmaben is well within travelling distance from many parts of the country, with Dumfries and Galloway being a fabulous area to visit.
A Warm Welcome awaits for you at the 19th, where our Bar and Catering Staff will be on hand to quench your hunger and thirst.
The 2nd hole at Lochmaben takes you past the site of Robert the Bruce’s castle which was an important part of many battles, the Wars of Scottish Independence, and the Battle of Lochmaben Fair in 1484 amongst them.
Our Golf Coordinator Brian recommends the 8th Hole (Kirk Loch, Par 3) The tee shot is played over an inlet of the Kirk Loch shelved on a severe slope towards the loch. Behind the green is a bank of rough to retain an over hit shot from running back onto the green
