DCC AUDAX - SAT 2 MAY

The first Audax starting and finishing in Dumfries for quite a while is here! A new (but thoroughly tested) 200km route is now available for entry on the Audax UK website. If 200km is a bit much, a shorter 100km event is being held on the same day.

Follow links for more details & how to enter.

An event for riders preferring a shorter route than the Rabbie and Reivers 200. The Burns and the Bees 100 is a straightforward out-and-back, sharing the same route as the Rabbie and Reivers 200 and stopping at the same control, the Beehive Cafe/Shop, Hopehouse. From there, retrace the route back to...

2025 MEMBERSHIPS
Dear Members,
2025 membership fees are now due. Rates have been frozen again and are only £15 for a senior (18 or over), £6 for a student or junior and £25 for a family group. Please arrange via SiEntries, link available from the DCC website.

NOTE
- Only club members are allowed to ride on organised Club events, including the Saturday club run.
- ALL members must take out their own cycle liability insurance. This is a requirement of being a member. No insurance will invalidate your membership and mean you can't participate in club events. Anyone needing assistance on gaining insurance, this is available by joining 'British Cycling' or 'Cycle UK' as two of the main options.

Deadline for joining for 2025 = 31st January.

As part of improving club communication, those joining for 2025 will be sent an invite to link up with the official Club WhatsApp group = Dumfries Cycle Club 2025 - this is an individual choice to participate in this group and has no reflection in your membership status - it is only a means for improving communication.

Kind Regards

VIE VELO TANDEM C2C TOUR UPDATE

Dear members, please find an update from VIE Velo about their tandem C2C ride.

Hello everyone

You had communication with my VIE Velo colleague Simon or I last year around this, please see attached note on where we’re at. We expect to have community events at Kirroughtree Visitor Centre on 2nd June and The Bridge, Dumfries on 3rd June, visited by the visually impaired tandem tourers riding the C2C route 2nd to 5th June. We want to make the most of these events both on the day and legacy – could all this influence sustained visually impaired or disability cycling in D&G in the future for example?

What would be most impactful at the events?

Could you get involved in developing them?

Could we source tandems and other adaptive bikes for use on the day?

Are there trained people who could run adaptive bike sessions?

Could there be a legacy – eg initiation of a visually impaired tandem club(s)?

How could D&G cycling clubs and communities get involved?

I hope this update is useful and it will be good to hear your thoughts and involve you (and others in D&G cycling) as appropriate going forward.

Thanks

Mike
