Heston Rovers Blacks β Football Roundup β½
We've been a little quieter than usual on the social media front over the last couple of weeks, so here's a quick catch-up on the boys' recent fixtures.
The first game saw us travel to Burnbank on Friday 15th. It wasn't one of our strongest performances of the season, with the boys struggling at times to match the opposition's energy, physicality and intensity. We showed glimpses of our quality and played some good football in spells, but ultimately Burnbank deserved the victory on the night, running out 4-2 winners.

Player of the Match β Lewis Graham
Despite the result, Lewis was outstanding throughout. His energy, work rate and determination were exceptional, covering every area of the pitch and competing strongly in every challenge. He was strong in the tackle, physical when required, and never stopped working for the team. A fully deserved Player of the Match performance.
The following weekend saw us travel to Motherwell to face a strong Motherwell Phoenix side. The boys started brilliantly and adapted well to a new 4-4-2 formation, taking an early lead and creating several good opportunities. Unfortunately, a few missed chances and some avoidable goals allowed Motherwell Phoenix to gain the upper hand. Despite battling throughout, the boys were unable to regain momentum, with the game finishing 5-3.
There were still plenty of positives to take from the performance, particularly the way the team adapted tactically and the quality shown during spells of the game. Credit to Motherwell Phoenix, who moved the ball well and proved a very strong opponent.

Player of the Match β Freddie Marshall
Freddie was excellent throughout, constantly driving the team forward and posing a real attacking threat whenever he got on the ball. His energy, positivity and willingness to take responsibility stood out and earned him a well-deserved Player of the Match award.
This weekend, the boys welcomed Tekkers Football Academy and produced what was arguably one of their most complete performances of the season.
After operating in a 4-4-2 formation the previous week, the boys reverted to a 4-3-3 system which allowed the wide players to press much higher up the pitch. The change proved hugely effective, with Heston aggressive from the very first whistle, direct in attack and solid defensively.
The intensity of the press caused Tekkers all sorts of problems, with the boys scoring four goals inside the opening ten minutes by relentlessly closing down defenders and refusing to give the opposition any time or space on the ball.
There were outstanding performances right across the pitch. Although not called upon too often, Blair's distribution from the back was excellent and helped start numerous attacks. The back four looked composed throughout, defending strongly and building play confidently from deep.
In midfield, Jack, Freddie and Lewis worked tirelessly to win possession and link defence with attack, while Brody, Jett and Henry thrived in the 4-3-3 system. Their movement, work rate and relentless pressing of the opposition back line created chance after chance and set the tone for the entire performance.
Credit must also go to Tekkers, who never stopped competing, remained physical in the challenge and continued to play positive football despite the scoreline. However, on this occasion Heston were simply outstanding and fully deserved the result.

Players of the Match β Brody Wells & Jett Jarvie
It was almost impossible to single out one player after such a strong team performance, but Brody and Jett shared the award after both grabbing hat-tricks and producing clinical finishing throughout the game.
Both players worked tirelessly for the team, pressed relentlessly from the front and were a constant threat whenever they got on the ball. Their energy, movement and determination epitomised the performance of the team as a whole and made them worthy joint recipients of the award.
Special mentions must also go to Connor for an excellent display in defence, as well as the midfield unit who provided the platform for the team to dominate throughout.
It's been a busy few weeks, but the attitude, commitment and development shown by the boys continues to be first class. We look forward to finishing the season strongly and continuing our preparation for the start of our first full competitive 11 A-side season in CLYFA. β«βͺπ
