πŸ† Active Campus Outstanding Achievement Award πŸ†

On Tuesday evening, we presented our final Active Campus Outstanding Achievement Award of the year to Bill Wilson.

Bill has been an outstanding volunteer throughout the year and has made a huge impact through his Over 50s Pickleball sessions at the college on Tuesday evenings.
What started as an introduction to pickleball has grown into a thriving community, with participants now enjoying regular competitive games each week in our sports hall.

The sessions have not only helped people develop their skills but have also created a welcoming social environment where new friendships have been formed.

This has been a fantastic project, and Bill's dedication, enthusiasm, and hard work have been key to its success. As he completes his studies this month, he leaves behind a lasting legacy that has benefited so many people.

Congratulations, Bill, on this well-deserved award. It has been a pleasure having you as part of Active Campus, and we wish you every success in the future! πŸ‘πŸŽ‰πŸ“

Staff & Student Pickleball Championship – End of Year Finale! πŸ“

What a fantastic way to round off the college year with our final Staff & Student Pickleball Championship!

The standard of play was outstanding throughout the evening, with plenty of competitive matches, great rallies, and an excellent atmosphere from start to finish.

This was arguably our closest championship yet, with Jim and Anne claiming the Men's and Women's Top Scorer titles. Both competitions went right down to the final game, showing just how competitive the field was.

A special mention goes to Steven, who finished the night with a perfect record, winning every match, while Ian was right on the leaders' heels throughout the competition.

In the women's competition, Danielle and Mary pushed Anne all the way, with the title only being decided in the final game as Anne successfully regained the championship she first won back in December.

We'll be taking a short break over the summer while we look forward to our brand-new sports hall playing surface being installed ahead of the new academic year.

We're also excited to bring pickleball, along with a range of other sports, to our Staff Development Day in August.

Thank you to everyone who took part and supported the sessions throughout the year. We can't wait to see you all back on court soon! πŸŽ‰πŸ“πŸ’ͺ

βš½πŸ€ Active Campus Lunchtime Sessions – Student Success! 🏐🏸

Throughout the year, Active Campus has worked closely with our Level 6 Sport and Fitness students, providing opportunities to participate in, support, and ultimately lead a variety of lunchtime sports and activity sessions.

The programme has been a huge success, with students confidently delivering a range of sports while developing their coaching, leadership, and communication skills.

A special mention goes to Gary and Nyasha, who recently led the men's football team at The Oriam during the National College Finals. They did an outstanding job selecting the squad and guiding the team throughout the tournament, earning praise for both their leadership and the professionalism shown by the team on and off the pitch.

We would also like to recognise Lewis, Harvey, and Kaven, who have been exceptional in leading our sports sessions throughout May. Their enthusiasm, professionalism, and ability to engage participants have been widely praised by both students and staff.

A huge congratulations and thank you to all of these students for their hard work, commitment, and positive contribution to Active Campus this year. We look forward to seeing them continue to develop their skills and make an even bigger impact as they progress to their HNC studies next academic year.

πŸ‘ Well done, everyone!

πŸ† NATIONAL COLLEGE FINALS πŸ†

On Wednesday 29th April, our college teams in badminton, football and basketball travelled to Oriam to compete in the Scottish Student Sport National College Finals.

It was a fantastic day of competition and a brilliantly organised event by SSS, with all of our teams representing the college with pride, determination and great teamwork throughout πŸ‘

Despite many of the players competing together for the first time, they produced some excellent performances and came away with some fantastic results.

A huge congratulations goes to our Female Football Team, who secured an impressive 3rd place finish in the tournament πŸ₯‰βš½

To top off an unforgettable day, our students also had the opportunity to meet players and staff from Heart of Midlothian F.C., who were training at Oriam ahead of the exciting end to their Scottish Premiership season. The squad were more than happy to chat with our players and take photos, making the experience even more special for everyone involved πŸ“ΈπŸ‘

A massive thank you to Lindsay our Student Advisor and Honor our Dumfries & Galloway College Student Association president for traveling up with the teams and helped out on the day.

Well done to all of our students who took part and represented the college so positively! πŸ’™πŸ§‘
