It is with great sadness that Solway Sk8ing Club shares the news of the passing of our dear friend, Diane Duncan.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Diane’s family, especially her daughter Grace, who remains a valued member of our skating family whenever she is home from university. We hope they find comfort in knowing just how loved and respected Diane was by everyone at Solway Sk8ing Club.
Diane was at the heart of our club for many years. She wasn’t just a parent or committee member, she was someone who was always willing to help wherever she was needed. Whether it was volunteering at fundraising events, supporting competitions, or simply lending a helping hand, Diane gave so much of her time to the club and our skaters.
She loved nothing more than travelling with our teams, cheering on every single skater, and celebrating their achievements as though they were her own. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and anyone who knew Diane will remember the fun, laughter and positivity she brought wherever she went.
If there was ever an opportunity to dress up, Diane was the first to embrace it! One of our favourite memories is from the day Solway Stars became British Champions with their unforgettable Beetlejuice-themed routine. While the team took to the ice in character, Diane arrived proudly dressed as Beetlejuice herself, cheering them on from the stands. It perfectly summed up who she was: fun-loving, full of spirit, and always the biggest supporter of our skaters.
Diane’s courage and strength touched everyone who knew her and, despite facing illness with incredible bravery, she continued to support the club she loved while making treasured memories with her family and friends.
She will be missed enormously by so many past and present members of Solway Sk8ing Club, but her kindness, friendship and unwavering support will never be forgotten. 🥰⛸️💙
The funeral service for Diane will take place on 11th August at 10:30am at Easterbrook Hall, The Crichton, Dumfries. This will be followed by a short committal service at Roucan Loch Crematorium at 12:00pm.
The family would be delighted for anyone attending the service to join them afterwards at Crichton Golf Club to share memories and celebrate Diane’s life.
Anyone who knew Diane and wishes to pay their respects will be warmly welcomed. There is no dress code, please wear whatever you feel is appropriate, or what you think Diane would have wanted you to wear. Family flowers only, please.
Rest in peace, Diane. Thank you for everything you gave to our club. You will always be part of the Solway family. 💙⛸️
