DAA Balsam Bash!

02/06/2026

Just a heads up that on Tuesday 23rd June as part of "invasives week" we will be hosting a representative from the Angling Trust who will be giving advice on the removal of invasives from DAA beats. Exact details of venue etc to follow but it will be an afternoon event starting at 1400.

A little more Habitat work today for the team on Hele beat. More clearing of fallen ash stems to reduce flood risk and repositioning of LWD as sweepers. This spot really is one of the great looking stretches of this beat.

Recent rain has caused a significant rise in both Little Exe and Barle. Dropping nicely now though, conditions should be perfect over the weekend if you’re able to get out there. Especially with the forecast rise in temperatures.

Habitat team wish all DAA members tight lines!

The Wild Trout Trust hold an annual auction, the proceeds go to the trust for the good of our beautiful wild Brownies, each year the DAA offer a day fishing our waters alongside a box of expertly tied flies by one of our members.
Yesterday the winning bidder Dave from up North visited Exmoor for a taste of what the DAA has to offer, suffice to say the Trout where in a happy mood and willingly came to a dry cast in the right place…
Nice fishing Dave 🎣👍

Are there any club members who own a ground anchor, and would be willing to let the Habitat team trial it on a DAA winching operation?

The kind of anchor used by the 4x4 community for vehicle recovery (in the event there isn’t a convenient tree to attach a winch to), is what we have in mind.

Thank you

Bank Holiday Monday spent finishing off the wind blown Ash tree chaos on the Haddeo by your dedicated Habitat team.

A huge thanks to everyone who has contributed to this task over the last couple of months.

As the photos show a huge improvement from the starting point chaos and valuable in-river large woody debris much in evidence at the end.

Might be worth a watch for DAA members with an interest in the Taw and/or Mole.https://www.facebook.com/share/1GoXWpeiY5...

Midweek trip back to the Haddeo for the Habitat team today.

A somewhat inconvenient fallen Ash on the road bend pool, repositioned as a sweeper.

Also the smaller of the fallen multi-stemmed Ash above the steel footbridge removed and the uprooted stump secured against the bank.

Further work to do, but we are definitely on the home straight in terms of sorting out winter storm casualties on the Haddeo.

Huge thanks to Alistair, Clive, Gary and Pete for donating another day’s time to maintenance of the Association’s waters.

The Habitat team, are pleased to announce that the lower steps (at the old bridge buttress) on Percy’s beat are now repaired and available for use.

Many thanks to Alistair for getting this sorted.

Many thanks to our Chairman Pat for another cracking new sign. This time it’s for the Hollam Beat, if you’re new to the Association it’s at the parking spot … so a helpful check that you’re in the right place to leave your car.
