Dullatur Lawn Tennis Club

Dullatur Lawn Tennis Club Dullatur Lawn Tennis Club History. The first meeting to form Dullatur Tennis & Bowling Club was held on 2nd November 1888. (21 shillings) £1.05. (25p) per month.

The committee started the club with an advance of £100.00 from the Life Association of Scotland to construct two ash courts and renting the portion between the feus of Mr T Marshall of Craigard and Mr W R B Thomson, partly fronting Victoria Road . The bowling green would be constructed as soon as funds were obtainable. The first Chairman of Dullatur Lawn Tennis Club in 1889 was Mr W John S Wylie o

f Richmond House, Prospect Road. The annual subscriptions were as follows:

For gentlemen 21/. For Ladies 10/6.( 52p)
For Junior Members 5/. (25p)
Summer Visitors 5/. We have moved on from then from ash courts to blaes. In 1988 we celebrated our Centenary in true Victorian fashion. In 1996 with the help of Cumbernauld Development Corporation and Sportscotland the blaes courts were replaced with all weather courts and in place of a wooden hut, we now have a multi purpose Village Hall with changing facilities. In 2014 the club resurfaced the well used original all weather courts with a smart two tone finish.

Please see attached (and on the Dullatur Community Council village noticeboard) a poster seeking support to help our tennis club survive and thrive. The poster identifies various ways you can support and how to get in touch. The Club needs this support because:
* court maintenance, including hedge trimming and moss control, nets upkeep and court surface treatments, is funded by the membership fees. Current membership levels will not cover these costs.
* the coaching programme aim is to break even, but at current attendance levels is an additional cost to Club finances.

In order to run more social and tennis events, and make the Club more attractive to prospective members, we need people to volunteer to help - as well as members and other attendees to come along.
Any type or level of help will be gratefully received.

We're coming to the end of our coaching season, as the nights draw in, but fingers crossed we get some good dry autumn weather to allow play on the courts during daylight hours. Thanks to all who have participated in the coaching sessions this season.

Our last fundraising social event of the year will be the family Halloween Party on the 1st November, run jointly with the DCC (Dullatur Community Council). Further details will follow. Anyone who would be interested in helping set up or clear up can get in touch (DLTC or DCC).

Thanks in advance
DLTC Committee
