BLACK DRAGON SCOTLAND'S DRUM DOJO MONDAY COMBAT JOURNAL: 22/06/26 THE GLEN URQUHART PUBLIC HALL, DRUMNADROCHIT.

5pm LITTLE DRAGONS/DRAGON WARRIORS CLASS/ADULT CLASS

TODAY: KNIFE DEFENCE & WILLIAM'S ORANGE BELT GRADING.

Dragons present: TA Luke, Sempai Casey, Sempai Eva, William and Pauline 😊

Warm-up: today conducted yet again by William, today's grader, thank you William 😊

Combat/Kicking/Blocking Katas: as continuation of the warm-up we circled through all 3 Combat Katas and the Kick Kata before moving onto...

Break-Falls: our Sempais and William all performed the Break-Falls. Here is a part of training we have neglected for a while, that's about to change. A big rusty here and there and the recovery from the forward Break-Fall back up into fighting stance needed looking at, TA Luke demonstrated the problem and solution. More practice guys 😊

At this point William was allowed practice time, to go over any points of training he needed advice over or questions answered. Sempai Casey was made available to him 😊

Techniques: the rest of us returned to the newly evolved knife defence technique we first looked at last Thursday (Combat Journal 180626). Neither Sempai Eva or Pauline had seen this technique before so we step by step went through the full thing. Sempai Eva pick this up quite quickly and so did Pauline. Pauline is starting to see points in the techniques and ask questions about them, this is very good and shows how far she's come, well done Pauline 😊

Grading: at 5.45pm, William's practice time was up, the main body of the grading now began. Through Break-Falls, the first set, not so good, the second..much better. Throws, sparring including blocks, Combat Katas to BOB, techniques with multiple opponents and avoidance. Through all that, a constant 30 minutes, William held him own. A few things missed, elbows in Break-Falls, keeping his guard up but...overall a very impressive Orange belt grading in the "Little Dragon" category.
So without further ado, please welcome our new Little Dragons Orange belt, William ✊🙏
I am both pleased and proud of his achievements today, and very happy to have William in our Black Dragon Martial Arts Family.

I love to end on a great high, nothing better than the promotion of one of our students. See you Thursday...on the mat.

BLACK DRAGON SCOTLAND'S DRUM DOJO THURSDAY COMBAT JOURNAL: 18/06/2026 THE GLENURQUHART PUBLIC HALL, DRUMNADROCHIT.

5pm LITTLE DRAGONS/DRAGON WARRIORS/ADULT CLASS.

TODAY: ASHTON'S KATAS, LAPELS & THE EVOLVING KNIFE DEFENCE.

Dragons present: TA Luke, Sempai Casey, Adam, and Austin 😊

Warm-up was conducted by Sempai Casey, thank you Casey😊

Blocking/kicking/Combat Katas: as an extension to the warm-up, all 3 Combat Katas ad the Kick Kata for TA Luke, Sempai Casey and Adam. Ashton, having only learned Combat Kata 1 continued with that as we moved on 😊

Workshop techniques: moving on we launch into an in-depth look at the lapel grab and it's related techniques. We covered many interpretations of the lapel, shoulder grabs etc. before TA Luke, Sempai Casey and Adam moved onto knife defence 😊

I took Ashton over to the BOBs for him to continue learning the Combat Katas. He had no problem today remembering the first Kata from his training last week with TA Luke. Setting him off on CK2, I check in the the other three and their ever evolving defence against knife. Returning to Ashton we continued onto CK3 which he soon picked up, in fact he was so impressive I videoed him doing all 3 to send to his Mums 😊

Again, another Thursday small class, but as per usual we got alot done. Some new improved additions to knife defence which I will catch up properly on soon. Exciting week next week, Little Dragons grading for William on Monday and the following Sunday 1st Dan Black belt for TA Luke. See you all for that and more, next week...on the mat.

BLACK DRAGON SCOTLAND'S DRUM DOJO MONDAY COMBAT JOURNAL: 15/06/26 THE GLEN URQUHART PUBLIC HALL, DRUMNADROCHIT.

5pm LITTLE DRAGONS/DRAGON WARRIORS CLASS/ADULT CLASS

TODAY: IMMEDIATE DRILL FOR WILLIAM, DRAGON STICK, STRANGLES AND RYU-KEN.

Dragons present: Sensei Anna, TA Luke, Sempai Casey, Sempai Eva, William and Pauline 😊

Warm-up: today conducted again by our future Orange belt (I have complete faith!), William, thank you William 😊

Combat/Kicking/Blocking Katas: all students present today are at a position now with the combat Katas and Kick Kata that they are now an extension of the warm-up, so after a couple of run- throughs we moved on to...

Dragon Stick: everyone had some knowledge of the stick. All at different stages of learning. To be honest the first Kata is being learned quite quickly. Pauline had a few issues with parts so TA Luke took everyone else over to the mats to continue while I took Pauline through the parts she was struggling with. Overall, stick training is coming along nicely 😊

Techniques: strangles, first agains the wall, both forward and backward. Several different releases there alone. Continuing with strangles from the back and with assailants holding your arm up your back, with his other arm around your throat. Quick release with armbar takedown 😊

William's grading prep: while today's techniques were processing, Sensei Anna had taken William for some grading preparation. Starting with strikes and kicks to BOB, Sensei Anna introduced William to immediate Drill, an area of training we have neglected in recent yeers but we will be returning to on a regular basis. This is part of KEA hand to hand fighting training, an excellent reaction programme. William took to it like a duck to water, adding in other strikes to update the process, very well done to not only William but Sensei Anna for introducing William to it 😊

Ryu-Ken: the Dragon Sword: with 15 minutes left we picked up the sword for Kata 1 practice. Pauline joined in too. Our Sempais and William did the Kata individually. All good but the best today was William, for the sheer determination in his slicing and blooding of the sword, well done William 😊

Last class for William before his grading next Monday, what I saw and what Sensei Anna reported back to me, I am looking forward to it. Both stick and sword are coming on nicely so with this we'll say "we'll see you all on Thursday"...on the mat.

Let's Stay Safe.
