🤿 DSAC Through the Decades

Same diver. Same pool. Different equipment.

We created this old photograph of Andy in his diving gear from the noughties! 📸

Fast forward to today and Andy is still diving with DSAC - but the equipment has certainly come a long way.

From the old-style ABLJ of the past to the modern BCDs we use today, diving equipment has evolved considerably over the decades.

But we love that Some things never change - the same people, the same love of diving and the same club bringing generations of divers together. 💙

DSAC Through the Decades

Ron recently brought in his very first buoyancy device - an ABLJ (Adjustable Buoyancy Life Jacket).

Before modern BCDs, this is what divers used to help control their buoyancy underwater. Quite a difference from the equipment we use today!

Here’s Ron giving us a demonstration and then letting Chris have a go.

For over 50 years, Droylsden Sub-Aqua Club has been helping people discover the underwater world, make lifelong friendships and create unforgettable memories.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be taking a trip through our archives, sharing the stories, people and equipment that have shaped our club - from vintage dive kit and old photographs to the members who've been with us from the very beginning, and the journey that has brought DSAC to where it is today.

A fun and productive day of diving at Capernwray!

With 18 divers in the water, it was a busy day of training, with many of our trainees completing modules towards their Sports Diver qualification.

We had divers working on rescue skills, Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) deployment and navigation, making it a hugely successful day all round!

A massive well done to all our trainees for your hard work and dedication - you did your instructors proud! 👏

And a big thank you to everyone who helped organise today's big dive and to everyone who came along and made it a great day.

To top it all off, the water temperature was just perfect... practically like a warm bath!

💙 We're incredibly proud to see one of our own featured by BSAC!

Kurt's journey into scuba diving is one we're particularly proud to share.

After discovering DSAC, Kurt found a welcoming and supportive community that helped him overcome the challenges he faced and realised that diving really was something he could do.

With the support of DSAC, BSAC and the Diving for All programme, Kurt has now achieved his BSAC Ocean Diver qualification!

His story has now been shared by BSAC, and it's a brilliant reminder of what can be achieved when people are given the opportunity, support and encouragement to have a go.

We're incredibly proud of you Kurt! 💙

We enjoyed an afternoon of delicious food, great company and plenty of sunshine. A huge thank you to our chef, Braxton, for keeping everyone well fed with an amazing BBQ! 👨‍🍳🔥

Thank you to Helen and Lesley for the gorgeous homemade cakes 🍰, Rachel for the abundance of yummy sausages and to Cara and Bob for the delicious halloumi skewers. 😋

With the sun shining, cold drinks flowing and everyone enjoying themselves, what more could you ask for?

A big thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the day such a success. It's safe to say this won't be our last BBQ - we're already looking forward to the next one! 👀

James recently visited Gran Canaria, where he caught up with Deb and Andrea for a fun few days of diving!

They started at Tufia Reef and the sandy seabed, where they spotted a huge octopus and James experienced his first-ever massive shoal of roncadores!

Over the following three days, they also explored Arinaga Beach, the Arinaga Crack Dive and Cave, and finished their trip with a wall dive at Sardina del Norte.

A weekend of diving in St Abbs took an unexpected turn when we spotted a sinking boat. 🚤

Without a second thought, it was all hands on deck as our members got stuck in to lend a helping hand.

A huge well done to everyone involved! 👏💙
