⚽U7 Whites. First game of the season! ⚽

On quite possibly the worst football pitch I’ve ever seen, but the chaps got stuck in and coped with it brilliantly.

It was a really close game and we were unlucky with the goals we conceded, but the biggest thing for us coaches was seeing every single player keep going right until the end. They worked hard, helped each other out and, most importantly, finished the game with big smiles on their faces.

Every player grew into the game as it went on and they should all be really proud of themselves 👏⚽

🌟 Man of the Match goes to Gorgeous George! 🌟

George was absolutely solid in defence. He ran into every tackle, chased back, cleared the ball when he needed to, everything we’ve been asking of him in training, and it was brilliant to see him take that into the game.

Well done, George! 👏💪⚽

Our Under 14’s made a sensational start to the new campaign following promotion last season.

⚽ AFC Dronfield 11–1 Hoyland

AFC Dronfield started their new season in style, playing their first game in a higher division following promotion last season.

AFC welcomed Hoyland and started the game really well. They controlled most of the opening 15 minutes, creating several good chances but initially unable to find the breakthrough.

The opening goal eventually came through Aaron Cronin, who picked the ball up deep inside his own half, drove forward past several players and finished brilliantly into the far bottom corner.

AFC soon made it 2–0, with Harry Wilkinson finishing well from close range after some great work down the right and a good cross into the box.

The third came from Freddie Holberry, who got on the end of a brilliant diagonal ball from Aaron before finishing really well past the keeper to make it 3–0.

Hoyland pulled one back just before half-time to make it 3–1.

AFC came out for the second half and took complete control. They played some excellent football, with some really good combinations going forward and a number of great team goals.

Finley Walch got himself on the scoresheet twice, including a really well-taken header, while Max Wright made a big impact on the game with a brace of two well-taken goals. Harry Wilkinson completed his hat-trick, while Aaron added his second of the game.

A special mention to Toby Knight, who was excellent at the back. He had the difficult job of looking after Hoyland's strong centre-forward and did a brilliant job of marshalling him and limiting his opportunities. Toby then capped off a superb all-round performance with a well-deserved goal of his own.

A fantastic start to life in the new division, with some excellent football played and, most importantly, a really strong team performance from the whole squad.

A Fantastic Start to the New Season

Our Under 11’s travelled away to Mosborough Lions for their first game of the new season — and, for many of the boys, their first time playing together as a team.

It was a tough start, with the Lions putting us under pressure from the very beginning. It took the boys a little while to settle into the game, but once they found their rhythm, our passing became more accurate and we started to create opportunities. Both teams had a few half chances during the first half, but neither side could find the breakthrough.

The second half saw AFC come out strongly and begin to dominate the game. Dougie’s corner found its way to the edge of the box, where Max T, making his AFC debut, produced a cheeky lob from the side of the area. A fantastic finish and a brilliant way to mark his first appearance!

The Lions responded quickly with an unstoppable volley, bringing the game level and setting up an exciting end-to-end battle.

Harry was outstanding in goal, making some fantastic saves when the Lions threatened.

At the back, Max G, also making his AFC debut, put in a really solid performance on the left of the defence. Jack was his consistently reliable self, while Zeph, on his debut, put in some fantastic challenges throughout the game. The defensive unit worked brilliantly with Harry and showed real determination to keep the Lions at bay.

In midfield, Albie controlled the game superbly, linking well with Archie up front and Oscar on the wing — two more players making their AFC debuts.

Oscar’s pace caused the Lions plenty of problems and he came close to finding the net on several occasions. Albie struck the woodwork, while Dougie’s effort went narrowly wide. The boys continued to press, creating chances and asking questions of the Lions defence.

Eventually, Archie challenged the keeper and managed to find the back of the net, giving AFC another goal and providing a fantastic moment for him on his debut.

The final few minutes were certainly tense as the Lions increased the pressure. The boys had to dig deep, with Jack making some excellent challenges alongside Zeph, while Max continued to work tirelessly to keep the defence organised and clear everything that came their way.

The final whistle brought a hugely encouraging end to AFC’s first game of the new season.

An amazing team performance, with plenty of positives to take forward. The boys showed great teamwork, determination, passing, defending and attacking play — particularly considering this was their first game together as a team.

Our Under 10 Blacks hosted Sheffield Allstars in our first game of the U10 season.

Just a single sub meaning the kids were going to have to work for it today!

Olivia began how she intended to continue, dominating the middle and creating opportunities. With wingers Harry and Rory both winning individually battles on the sides, several chances finally led to Rory the ball in the back of the net with a great half volley.

With limited subs this game and several kids having picking up knocks the kids began digging deep to keep up with the pressure from the counter attacks. Harry hit the crossbar with right foot shot and Oliver kept us in it relentlessly with save after save!

New signing Monty put his foot in several times at crucial moments and Will and Teddy put in great shifts at the back holding Sheffield off all game. Kaspers now very consistent ‘never give in attitude’ was put to test in multiple positions but with minutes to go Dronfield put bodies behind the ball to protect the lead and with Sheffield Allstars chasing an equaliser the game became stretched allowing AFC hitting them on the counter with a great effort from Teddy being denied by a brace save by the opposition keeper, but then a very long range effort had us beat to equalise in the dieing minutes of the game.

A stoic effort and the makings of great things to come this season!

Here’s our Under 13 White Manager Liam with his report…

First league match of the season for U13 White today away at Rotherham Town.

The worse pitch we’ve ever played on but in reality it’s the same for both teams just never seen one in that condition at the beginning of the season.

Today the lads battled manfully against a very big and physical team and our lads weren’t quite able to match them.

The game itself lacked quality and with only 10 minutes left on the clock it was still 0-0 and in all honesty, the opposition had enough chances to be out of sight by this point but the lads had stayed in the game to their credit.

Rotherham went 1-0 up when their striker blocked Matty’s attempted clearance and it bounced into the net only for Jack to swing in a great corner with a minute left for Felix to head home and get us a hard fought point.

Unfortunately we did not get back into our shape to see the game out and Rotherham scored what was to be a last minute winner, which was probably just about deserved but an unwanted kick in the groin nevertheless.

Here’s Manager Rick with his report on our Under 16’s…

We travelled to Rawmarsh for our first game of the season.

With the new players integrating well after an excellent pre season we knew we’d be in for a tough game but had the quality. It shone through with a hard fought 2-0 win.

First goal from Bailey assisted by Aidan, second goal Harry - both scrappy in the box numbers which we’ll take every day.

Well done to the lads for working hard and ensuring we had the momentum all the way through. MOTM Harry for a battling performance all over the pitch.

Our Under 17s had a very tough start to life in the A Division, losing 1-8 away at a decent Millmoor side.

⚽️🔥 THE LEAGUE SEASON IS BACK… AND WHAT A GAME TO START WITH! 🔥⚽️

Our Under 8 Whites travelled to Grindleford today to take on Brunsmeer FC in our first league game of the season. 🖤🤍🩵

We know the top division is going to be incredibly competitive this year, and today proved exactly that! 👏🏻⚽️

We didn’t make the best of starts and Brunsmeer took full advantage, grabbing an early goal. That seemed to wake the lads up though, and we quickly started playing some really nice football.

⚽️ Finley grabbed the equaliser before some great work from Freddie set up Olly to put us in front.

🔥 Finley then produced a fantastic solo goal to give us some breathing space, but in typical Brunsmeer fashion, they came straight back into the game.

The lads settled themselves again and some brilliant work down the wing from Ellis found George, who finished really well to give us another boost going into the break. 👏🏻

At half-time we asked the lads to come out firing and put the game to bed… Brunsmeer had other ideas! 😅

They started the second half brilliantly and the game quickly became a real battle, with both teams working incredibly hard and neither willing to give an inch.

We eventually edged back in front when another brilliant assist from Freddie found Finley, who completed his hat-trick! 🎩⚽️⚽️⚽️

Brunsmeer continued to battle and the game remained incredibly competitive, with both sides throwing everything into the contest.

After another frantic spell, the lads finally settled down and started playing our football again.

✨ Great play from Alfie helped create the opening for Finley to grab his FOURTH! ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

From there, the confidence started flowing. Finley delivered a brilliant cross for Ethan to finish, before Ethan grabbed another in the closing minutes to cap off an incredible game. 🔥⚽️

Here’s Manager Kano with his report for our Under 8 Blacks…

Our season got underway at home on Gosforth against Junior Tykes, and the lads were straight into the action from the first whistle.

We started brightly but found ourselves behind after just five minutes. The boys responded brilliantly, showing great character as Jack produced a fantastic solo run and finish to get us back on level terms. The teams went into the break all square after an entertaining opening half.

We came out strongly after the break and really put the Tykes under pressure, creating a number of good opportunities. Our hard work eventually paid off when Gabe played a perfectly weighted through ball to Louie, who kept his composure brilliantly to finish and give us the momentum.

The game continued to be played at a great pace, with chances being created at both ends. The lads continued to work tirelessly for each other, showing plenty of determination, battling for every ball and never giving up.

As the game entered its final stages, the boys kept pushing right until the final whistle. Josh then produced a moment of real quality, firing an unstoppable strike into the top corner to cap off an excellent individual performance and a fantastic effort from the whole team.

It was a brilliant way to get the season underway against a well-organised Junior Tykes side, particularly having only returned to training that week following the summer break. There were plenty of positives to take from the performance, with the boys showing great teamwork, resilience and some excellent football.
