The Admin is raising a glass. The final weekend of the season and Matt Kirkham has decided to leave absolutely nothing in the tank.
108* on Saturday. 8 fours. 7 sixes. A few helpful dimensions on the straight boundary, but a hundred is a hundred. Then Sunday comes around and Matt does it all over again — 101* from just 53 balls, with 14 fours and 3 sixes.
38 innings. 1,017 runs. Matt has played more cricket than anyone could reasonably complain about — despite spending most of the season telling everyone how much he hates it. He moans about cricket every week, then turns up every week. Make it make sense.
A proud Kidderminster Harriers supporter, occasionally known to choose the football over the cricket, and a Cutnall Green lad whose local side have just earned promotion in the same league as Droitwich. Yet somehow, Matt still chooses us. We’ll take it.
And it’s not just Matt who’s part of the furniture. Dad Dave is the man behind the BBQ, keeping everyone fed while his son spends the summer scoring a thousand runs.
Then there’s the lifestyle.
Friday night: 3am finish.
Saturday match: arrives 20 minutes before the start.
Saturday night: curry with the lads at our amazing sponsor, Gurkha Majestic Dining
Sunday: another unbeaten hundred.
And just when you thought the season was over, Matt’s off to Lisbon next weekend with the cricket lads for the end-of-season trip. Because clearly 1,017 runs, two hundreds and a weekend of cricket wasn’t enough to celebrate the 2026 season.
Beer in hand, big mouth switched on and somehow still finding time to score runs.

A magnificent 4/22 from 6 overs yesterday for the Sunday XI for Joe Murray earns him YPOTW 👏
