Cookstown RBL 3-0 Draperstown Celtic Reserves

A youthful Draperstown Celtic Reserves side suffered a 3-0 defeat away to a more experienced Cookstown RBL outfit, but there were plenty of positives to take from the performance, particularly in the second half.

The Reserves struggled to settle into the game early on, with Cookstown making good use of the long ball over the top. The hosts’ direct approach caused problems for the young Celtic defence and ultimately saw Cookstown take a 2-0 lead into the half-time break.

Cookstown added a third shortly after the restart from the penalty spot, putting the home side firmly in control.

However, to their credit, the Reserves responded well and began to settle into the game. Celtic started to move the ball around with much more confidence, creating a number of chances and showing good passages of play. The substitutes also made a real impact, bringing great energy and intensity to the game as the Reserves pushed to get themselves back into it.

Unfortunately, the lads couldn’t find the finish required to get on the scoresheet, and the game ultimately finished 3-0.

Despite the scoreline, the effort from the young Celtic side could not be faulted, particularly in the second half. Against a physically stronger and more experienced Cookstown team, the Reserves showed good character to keep battling and improve as the game progressed.

Plenty to build on for the young squad as they continue their development. ⚽️💚

⚽️ DC 2013s | Match Report 💚

It wasn’t to be for the DC 2013s on Saturday as they suffered defeat to Maiden City at Cahore.

Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance. DC showed some excellent spells of football, moving the ball up the pitch with great passing, movement and teamwork. We created some good opportunities but just couldn’t find that cutting edge in front of goal.

Maiden City enjoyed more of the possession, but our lads worked incredibly hard, with the defence and midfield putting in a huge shift to keep them out for long periods.

With no substitutes available, the players gave absolutely everything they had. Unfortunately, as the game went on, tired minds and tired bodies eventually gave Maiden City the opportunity to take advantage.

But the effort from the lads could not be faulted. Every single player gave 100% and showed great determination, character and team spirit right to the final whistle. 👏💚

There will be lessons to learn from this one, but we’ll take the positives, learn from the negatives and continue to work hard, improve and develop as we progress through the league campaign.

Well done, lads. Heads up and keep going! 💪⚽️

Draperstown Celtic 2 - 4 Cookstown Youth

DC welcomed the first game of the season with anticipation and confidence, reflected by a dominant start by DC holding possession high in the opposing half, calm passing yielding several opportunities for shots on goal including a strike on the crossbar.
The breakthrough came in the 21st minute against the run of play.. with Cookstown Youth stumbling through the middle and shooting from the edge of the Box, 0-1 Down.
Cookstowns confidence visibly rose, and they seemed to get to every second ball first, turning over possession, cutting out loose passes, frustrating attacks and pressing us in return, DC had to work hard, and found themselves 2-0 down after 32 minutes.
There were a few notable attacks from DC with Ryan braking down the wing, whose shot just tricked past the far post. Dean also had a shot save low to the keepers right after a more characteristic passing move be DC down the left.

Half time allowed DC to reflect and catch their breath ready for what would be a competitive second half.

48’ minutes saw a remarkable strike outside the D, to put Cookstown 3-0 up

53rd minute saw out first changes, with the bench eager to make a positive impact. Dylan coming in for Dean and Ethan on for Aiden Lagan.

55 minutes saw DC go 4-0 down however, after a failed clearance in the box, many felt a foul had been committed, but the goal stood.

Ray came on for Ryan in the 60th minute, and DC got a goal back, Captain Aaron McBride fired home from close range after A low driving cross from right back Tommy. 1-4.
Sean, on for Dara Mckinless and Blondie, on for Callum in the 64th minute.
DC kept their heads up and clearly felt there were more goals to be had. Passes started flowing and DC looked more threatening than they had all game, momentum started to shift in out favour.
After several breaks and chances, DC were rewarded with the goal, coming from Blondie in the 88th minute, assisted by Reece. 2 goals to Cookstowns 4.
Time however, ran out.

Players can take confidence from a better overall 2nd half performance, and the knowledge we can be very competitive in this league.
