Scottish Open Pickleball Event Summary

Friday

Natalia competed in the singles, securing two wins and narrowly losing two very close matches, both 11 to 10, after strong performances throughout. There was little time to rest as she then teamed up with Laura for the women’s doubles. These matches were also closely contested, but they missed out in the closing stages and finished with one win in their group.

Natalia finished 5th out of 7 in the singles.

Hannah and Sara partnered in the women’s doubles and had a strong showing, finishing 3rd in their group with two wins.

Saturday

The girls had a day off, while Adrian and Mario competed in the 3.49 to 3.99 category. It was a very challenging group, with several opponents reaching the semi finals and finals. They managed one win in their last match and finished second last in a tough field.

Sunday

Jerry and Laura gave their best effort in a highly competitive group. They were involved in some exciting rallies but unfortunately came up short in all of their matches.

Adrian and Natalia played together and secured two wins, finishing second last in a very strong group. They ended the day on a high, winning their final match after coming back from 8 to 1 down, producing some excellent rallies to close out the event.

Mario and Hannah had a flying start, winning 4 out of 5 matches with a strong points difference. They finished top of their group and progressed straight to the quarter finals. They then lost a close 11 to 7 match against opponents who went on to reach the final, showing it was very much there to be taken.

Overall, we really enjoyed the experience of playing in the tournament and believe we have such a fantastic group of players in Dornoch Pickleball Club. We’ve learned a lot over the last few days that we can take into our future games and continue building on. We can go home proud, representing Dornoch Pickleball Club.

A good day on court at Moray Sports Centre for our Scottish League fixtures against Grampian Pickleball Club.

Grampian were strong throughout and took their chances well, winning both the home and away ties 8-1. While the overall results went their way, there were still plenty of close rallies where things could easily have shifted.

Adrian and Jerry both played some excellent pickleball, pushing their matches right to the final points. Hannah and Kay also picked up a well-earned win in their second game of the day, which was a real highlight for us.

Days like this are a useful reminder of the level being played across the league. It’s not always straightforward, but it’s exactly what we need to keep improving.

Our final fixture of the season is now booked in for next month, and we’ll look to finish that chapter on a strong note.

A few of us now turn our attention to the Scottish Open in Edinburgh next weekend, which will be another good opportunity to test ourselves again.

Yesterday’s double header against Aberdeen Mavericks took place at Moray Sports Centre in Elgin, with both teams travelling to meet in the middle.

The results did not quite go our way with 6 to 3 and 7 to 2 losses, but there were plenty positives to take from the day. Ali made a cracking debut for the club and picked up 3 wins from his 6 games alongside Adrian, Laura and Sara. Sara also had a brilliant day on court winning 2 out of her 3 games with Ali and Natalia.

A really enjoyable day against a young and very fit university side who were welcoming and great fun to play against throughout.

Thanks again to Aberdeen Mavericks for making the trip through 👏

It was always going to be a tough day for Dornoch Pickleball Club against top-of-the-league Meadows Pickleball Club with both home and away fixtures on today’s schedule.

The results reflect that, with Dornoch going down 8-1 at home and 9-0 away.

There were still plenty of long rallies and hard-fought points with the team battling in every match against a very strong side.

A tough day on court but a great one nonetheless against a friendly Meadows side. One to take on the chin, learn from and move forward! 💪

Dornoch Pickleball Club claimed its first ever match win last night, beating Inverness Pickleball Club 5-4 at home 🎉

It was a close contest from start to finish, coming down to the final game of the evening, where Mario and Hannah stepped up to see it through in the deciding match. A strong team performance secured the win and a result to be proud of 💪

The team now turns its attention to a tough test this Sunday with a double header in Elgin against league leaders Meadows Pickleball Club. A big challenge ahead, but confidence will be high after last night’s result 💪🎉

A busy few days for Dornoch Pickleball Club 💪

Today’s result saw a 6-3 loss to Pickleball Pals North in a very competitive match. The scoreline does not quite reflect how close it was, with many games going right to the wire.

There are real positives to take. This is the first time we have won more than 2 games in a match, and we have already surpassed our total number of wins from last season’s league campaign 👏

Player of the day goes to Laura 👏 who was in outstanding form, winning all 3 of her games alongside Natalia, Kay and Jerry.

On Thursday, we lost 7-2 to Inverness Pickleball Club, but there were plenty of highlights. Kay and Neil made superb debuts and held their own against strong opposition. It was great to have Jerry back on court and playing so well, and great to have Ashley back supporting and coaching the team for the rest of the season.

Well played everyone, and on to the next one!
