2nd XI Season Review 2025/26
Player of the Year: Cam Smith
Most Appearances: Cam Smith (20)
Top Goalscorer: Oli Goddard (9)
Captain’s Quote (Ollie Turner): “The 2s season resembles one of football’s oldest cliches - a season of two halves. Riddled with injuries and key departures in the first half of the season, the new backroom staff of JT, OT and Beardo struggled to create an identity in the squad. Plenty of strong performances but few results to match. Spirit, talent and beers were in abundance but points pitiful.
“A 2-0 win away at Clapham before Christmas helped kickstart the revival and from 8th place in early January to 3rd place come the end of the season was quite the turn around. Style of play adapted, a solidified and dependable backline of Smith, Lynn, Clenaghan, Higgins, Cannon and Turner provided stability, although unfortunately for the ever-present Venn, clean sheets were hard to come by. Charman and Riccio ‘ratting’ around providing all sorts of havoc, with Crowfoot proving that we do actually play attractive football sometimes at the Lane. Consistent goal contributions all year from Goddard, Teague, Jenkins and Scovell, who snatched the Goal of the Season award, much to Goddard’s despair, who has become quite the free-kick specialist. The season highlighted the club’s ethos and comradery as the squad was blustered with performances from players down to the 6s, with a very big helping hand from the U18s.
“Big victories against Fulham, Economicals (twice) and Sutts ensured the 2s grabbed a huge 13 points in the final 6 games of the year to secure promotion. A well-deserved break earned for those tricky chicks who will be back to ruining Saturdays for amateur football teams all over south LDN come September.”
