16 junior players from Dorchester Tennis & Squash Club travelled to Belgium and the Netherlands for an exciting week-long tennis tour. The group’s training base for the week was Tennis Club De Lusthoven in Belgium, a beautiful club boasting 8 outdoor and 3 indoor courts, situated just across the border from Holland. It provided the perfect base for a busy week of tennis, competition and team activities.

During the tour, the players took part in international meetings against juniors from Lawn Tennis Club Bladel, Lawn Tennis Club De Kemphanen and Tennis Club De Lusthoven. These matches provided a fantastic opportunity for the Dorchester players to experience competing against youngsters from different nationalities and backgrounds. Playing international opponents also brought an unexpected challenge: the language barrier! The players quickly discovered that tennis is very much a universal language, with plenty of communication taking place through smiles, hand signals and, of course, the scoreboard. It was fantastic to see the juniors getting to know new people, embracing the differences and thoroughly enjoying the experience of competing against Dutch and Belgian players.
The group also took part in two local tournaments, the Geldermalsen Open and the Zonnebloem Open in Barneveld. The standard of tennis on display was outstanding, with the Dorchester players competing strongly throughout both events.

It was very impressive that 7 DTSC players reached at least the semi-final stage, with 3 players going on to win their respective events. These results were a fantastic reward for the hard work, determination and commitment shown by the players throughout the week. However, the success of the tour was about much more than results. Throughout the trip, the juniors demonstrated exemplary sporting etiquette, showing respect to their opponents, officials and hosts. They embraced the opportunity to experience tennis in different countries, competed with enthusiasm and supported one another both on and off the court.

A huge thank you to LTC Bladel, LTC De Kemphanen, TC De Lusthoven and the organisers of both tournaments for hosting DTSC so brilliantly and making the players feel so welcome throughout the tour.

Tremendous congratulations to all 16 players who represented Dorchester Tennis & Squash Club so brilliantly. They should be extremely proud of both their tennis and the way they conducted themselves throughout the week. It was a fantastic week of tennis, friendship and international competition, and one that the players will hopefully remember for many years to come.
