Charlton Down CC 1st XI continued their unbeaten run in County Division 2 with a commanding 9 wicket victory over Poole Town CC 3rd XI at The Herrison Oval.
Winning the toss and choosing to bowl, there was early frustration for The Down. Despite a tight start from opening pair Harrington (9-2-0-27) and Homewood (9-1-2-35) neither men could find the immediate breakthrough before a smart catch from Nick Voss at mid off to dismiss opener Parsons (6). Ashley Hayes (6-1-1-26) then made the next breakthrough as Hunt (10) was caught at gully. Opener N Williams (65) anchored the innings well for the away side, as they pushed past the 100 mark. 2 relatively quick wickets from Nick Voss (7-0-3-52) slowed the Town innings as they reached the 150 mark, 4 down. A top knock from Sharma (58) was brought to an end by some smart fielding from Dylan Heath, and the wickets continued to fall as the Town finished on 224/9 from their 45.
An early chop on from George King (6) ended up being the only wicket to fall in a masterclass is chasing from Jack Eveleigh (89*) and Luke Voss (104*). Despite a spicy start from the Town openers, both men looked calm and composed from the start, punishing anything short and wide to demoralise a tiring attack. Opener Eveleigh enjoyed some classy shots through cover as he charged towards his first milestone of the league season. At the other end, Luke Voss continued his fine form this season, with yet another half century. Neither batsman looked like being dismissed, and with the race to three figures on, it was Voss who would reach the milestone in the 42nd over, with a trademark flick through mid wicket. And just one delivery later, he wrapped up proceedings with a lofted drive back over the bowler to give The Down all 20 points to leave them in 3rd place in Division 2.
