As I walked along the beach yesterday morning, I thought to myself ‘Sunrise is my favourite part of the day’....then I thought ‘Oh no wait, I love sunset too’.... then my mind went to breakfast, lunch, dinner and any other food related moments in the day... ‘Oooh yeah, I love them too’... Then I thought of the sweet, fun, loving interactions with family and friends through the day - I absolutely adore them all - often they make me laugh out loud or feel the love... whatever - they are wonderful and totally my favourite.... and so the list went on - snuggling on the sofa with the cat and a good book, casting my circle and engaging in gratitude and magick, going to bed and that sweet moment when you turn out the light and all is dark and still, then sleeping..... more and more moments I love about each day came into my thoughts and I realised anew how good life is..... That’s Law of Attraction in action... it will always send you more thoughts in line with what you’re thinking about. It also emphasises to me the value of meditation and mindful living.... meditation is a training for keeping watch over our thoughts and taking necessary action to increase the time we spend thinking helpful thoughts in order to live a happier life. Mindfulness does the same and supports us to focus our attention closely to the many elements within an experience thus expanding our enjoyment and appreciation of any given moment...... good eh?! 💕

I’m not one to brag but I have one particular skill at which I would class myself as brilliant... bordering on, if not actual, total genius. Yes, I would say I am at genius level. The skill I refer to is The Glorious Art of Procrastination.
As I look back over the years, and there are many, I can cite several examples to prove my claim of genius. We all know about cleaning the cooker, blitzing the fridge and tidying the messy drawer but what about dismantling a toilet basin and clearing out the pea trap in a friend’s house? Yup! Did that... anything to not start an essay for uni! That particular gem was the first time I even realised I did the whole procrastination thing.... I thought I was being helpful until it was very clearly pointed out to me what I was actually doing.
My current trick has been redecoration, an old, time-honoured favourite, not one but two rooms this week.... consequently my house is upside down and there’s so much on my to do list that I can’t possibly get on with what I said I would do. Not right now.
I read a little bit of insight yesterday that asked ‘How strong is your will?’ Well..... the will to avoid is pretty strong! I clearly need to put that strong will talent into actually doing what I’ve said I would do! But knowledge is power so, once I’ve finished decorating and clearing up the mess, replacing discarded cupboards and choosing new accessories, I’ll get on with what I was meant to be doing....
My question to myself is - what is the underlying reason you are putting this off? My answer - fear.... time for some self-therapy 😉💕

I have felt , for the past year or so, a strong compulsion to clear my space. By which I mean, get rid of many years’ worth of accumulated stuff and clutter from my home. At first I sorted through clothes and got rid of a few things I didn’t feel were particularly comfortable or didn’t fit any more. Then I moved on to other items like cookery books I didn’t use, cds etc. It was good but didn’t feel enough. My home still felt messy.

Recently, I was guided to a book called The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo... which appealed to me on many levels: life change, magic and tidy... and I started all over again! I decided to stick 100% to the rules. No exceptions. If I was going to do this, I’d do exactly what the author said. As a result, this wave of clearing has been different. The approach essentially is to consider each item in turn and ask myself ‘Does this bring me joy?’ If it does, it stays; if not, it goes. The results have surprised me at times but what is becoming clear, is that by focusing on what brings joy, the consequent letting go or releasing of the things that don’t can be done with relative ease.

What has particularly struck me is the incredible physical weight of the things I have said goodbye to.... I’m talking hauling huge boxes and bags of stuff out of my home and sending them off to wherever they have been assigned, be it recycle centre, dustbin or charity shop. What remains is the emerging of a new clear and calm space in which to live and a huge sense of relief knowing all that weight has gone.

As I move about my home now, although I have more to do, I notice the space and order I have created, containing the things I love and I experience a real sense of happiness, tranquility, calm and joy... this is indeed, magic 💕

She does not think about who she is nor who she would like to become. She looks neither to the past nor the future. She doesn’t compare herself to others and wish she was the colour of the lavender or think she would be better if she had the scent of the rose. She does not plan to change herself in any way. She is simply the expression of her own beautiful self.

The photo shows a path I took with some friends during a woodland walk at the start of the week. As we strolled along enjoying the gorgeous weather and scenery, I remembered it was tick season and suggested we check occasionally for any that might be on us.... We had a look and found we were covered in them.... to say it was unpleasant is an understatement! To be honest, we freaked out big time and ran back along the grassy path we were on, to the gravelled bridleway we had left some moments before. Frantic brushing down ensued and we checked each other for anything we might have missed on ourselves. Once aware there were ticks around, we were more mindful about where we walked and definitely maintained extremely high levels of vigilance!

On my drive home, I thought about linguistic programmes we have running and how they can be a bit like the ticks lurking, hidden in the grassy pathways, in the sense that if we don’t know they’re there, we can’t keep a check on them. Specifically, I was thinking about modal operators of necessity, those little words and phrases we use frequently such as ‘I really have to get this done’, ‘I must go shopping’, ‘I should have a tidy house’, ‘I ought to go on a diet’, ‘I need to exercise more regularly’ and so they go on. Conversely, we use these little blighters to beat ourselves up about what we shouldn’t do: ‘I shouldn’t have had that cake’, ‘I mustn’t waste my time’, ‘I should never have spent all that money’. These linguistic patterns latch onto our thought processes and burrow into our psyches. If left unnoticed, they become habits, growing stronger and more powerful over time, as they contribute to our sense of guilt, drain our energy and reduce our sense of well-being.

As a practitioner, when I spot these little patterns of language clients use, I bring them into their conscious awareness because once we are aware of their presence, and we notice how we use them, we can change our language. This changes how we feel, what we do and how we do it.

Now you know these words and phrases exist, try it for yourself... the next time you say or think something like ‘I really must clean the car’ or ‘I mustn’t watch so much tv’ stop and think about it. Notice how you feel. Change your language and remove the guilt factor. Shift the emphasis from need and necessity to one of possibility and ease, such as ‘I could clean the car now’ or ‘I can watch less tv this evening’ and notice the relief it brings.

You might be thinking you’ll never achieve anything when you make this change but the opposite tends to be true. By giving yourself choice linguistically, by being kinder to yourself, you will achieve and you’ll also experience a sense of freedom and a lighter approach to how you live your life from day to day 💕

A colleague and I challenged ourselves to do something different this weekend that involved facing something we were scared to do and so have been putting off. I decided I would take an inland walk. My comfort zone, since I started walking by myself a couple of years ago, is to keep to the Dorset Coast Path. I know where I am. I stay on the path. I walk out from the car one way. I turn round and return the way I came. Easy. Safe. No surprises. I never feel lost or scared. Safe. Safe. Safe.

The first place that came to
mind was Cerne Abbas, so this morning I found a circular walk from Mintern Magna which encompassed Cerne Abbas village. I had a sketchy map with written directions from the internet photo’d onto my phone, map.me and google maps - far less than I would think I need to be safe and risk free and off I went.

Well, from the off I couldn’t find the right path, gate, style, finger boards or any other landmarks on my directions, neither could I get a signal for google maps etc, so I just set off with a rough idea of where I was going.

Along the way I found different paths, a fabulous tree-lined avenue, questionable routes across fields and a couple of dodgy spells on major roadways. Once or twice I was exactly on the right path and could identify with the directions and the map. The rest of the time I had no idea exactly where I was or whether I was even meant to be there but I knew my destination and had a few landmarks in sight along the way. I even stumbled across a wonderful artist called Zoe Roberts and visited her beautiful home to look round her studio and view her exhibition as part of Dorset Arts Week.

I had a wonderful morning. I found inspiration and insights along the way. I went where I wanted to go and ended up in exactly the right place but the route I took was not in the plan and the paths were often pretty unclear until I was actually right on them and able to look around and get my bearings.

I won’t go further than this to apply the experience for you, although the application for myself is clear. I have goals and dreams. I plan to work exclusively for myself, helping others with their emotional health and spiritual development. I’d like to climb rocks on beaches in Thailand. I want to travel in Asia and visit New Zealand. Today was my first step in that direction. Otherwise, in ten years’ time you’d find me still on the Coast Path. Great dreams begin by taking a small step. We know that. But the step can be difficult to take whilst it’s in our mind. Then we decide to take it. The rest is easy....

I hope you find the inspiration and courage you need as you apply this metaphor in your own life 💕

I love doing reiki with animals... today I worked with three beautiful horses and got to hang out with the dogs too! I’m not sure an afternoon could get any better than that 💕
