I hear in the gym or in classes the phrase "but I can't do a press up" all the time.
When I ask the person to demonstrate a press up, they always try the hardest way first and have their elbows flared to the sides.
This is why you can't do a press up.
Start simple in an inclined position with your elbows behind you as best as you can.
Gradually lower the incline as you improve technique.
Then try it on the floor.
Now you can do a press up.
Just remember, keep your back straight,elbows behind you, and suck your belly button in to engage the core.
