Update from PADI

Dear Paul,

I hope you are continuing to stay safe and well.

You will hopefully be aware of the latest guidelines issued by the British Diving Safety Group on the 21st May, which opened the possibility of shore diving again, subject to specific regulations for England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. You can read them in full here.

This is an important step in the right direction. We are also hopeful that this will enable the inland dive sites to begin to open their doors again.

Yesterday the government also paved the way for non-essential businesses in England to reopen from the 15th June, giving us a clear pathway to reopening many dive centres. Although more information has yet to follow on this, it is another important milestone and reason for optimism.

Dear Paul,

I hope you are staying well in these difficult times. The last few weeks have proven incredibly challenging for the whole country; our livelihoods have been impacted and our day to day lives disrupted - however, I know that some PADI members who are receiving this email will have endured far greater tragedies and hardships.

Through our communications with PADI members in the UK, I know that some of you have lost loved ones or suffered illness yourselves. Still more of you have acted as frontline responders in the NHS, or as key workers supporting the economy, or have been quietly going about vital jobs creating PPE and similar equipment. Our hearts go out to everyone who has suffered and our deepest thanks to everyone who has helped the country during these unprecedented times.

Last week, the UK Government laid out a plan for the phased re-opening of the economy and I am writing to update you on the latest advice and support available to you from PADI. Indications are that dive stores would fall into “Phase 2” of this plan – with a tentative re-opening date of early June.

Whilst we are all relieved at the prospect of a return to our work, it is important to note that, although increased
