MATCH REPORT

Here is Saturdays match report from our win against Nostell 2nds that saw us cement our second place league position.

We started off with skipper Cameron winning the toss and electing to field as always. Opening the bowling we had the main men, M. Chandrasekhar & M. Brown. With the visitors starting strong it definitely was not what any of our lads expected. However it wasn't long till we struck, Bucket hands Leyton with a catch from M. Brown saw our visitors 1-17. It wasn't long later till we struck again, B. Murphy with a one handed grab that just stuck to his hand like glue. Unfortunately today wasn't the day for . M. Chandrasekhar who was unable to take any wickets during his spell.

With a change on one end we saw T. Smith enter the attack with his steady line and length helping to reduce the visitors run rate rather heavily. M. Brown still on at the other end provided a lot of problems for the batters and he got his reward by trapping the Nostell batter LBW. T. Smith wanted in on the action as he then went on to bowl M. Staniforth. M. Brown then came to the end of his spell 10 overs - 3 wickets for 32 runs 2 Maidens.

Now we saw T. Butterworth come into the attack, bowling something that i can't describe. T. Smith at the other end providing his challenges as T. Butterworth bowling around the wicket trying to tempt the batters into a big swipe. Both causing issues and you can see why, Wicket for T. Butterworth LBW, Bowled, Caught. A almost full house of dismissals. T. Smith still on the other end continued to prod away and he got his reward in form of a catch via M. King. T. Smith finished his spell 10 overs 2 - 18 3 maidens.

Next into the attack was R. Wilcock, with T. Butterworth on the other end the lack of pace on the ball from the pair made it difficult for the Nostell batters to score. T. Butterworth picking up wickets at the other end keeping the wickets going. R. Wilcock picking up just the one as the batter dragged onto the stumps way outside the line. T. Butterworth ended his spell 10 overs 3 for 35.

Nostell finished their innings 125/9 from 40.

Now onto the batting,

M. King and B. Murphy opened this week, M. King yet again setting the standard with B. Murphy following on. Both working together and setting a cracking partnership of 82 in 16.1 overs. Unfortunately the partnership was broken as B. Murphy was bowled by the only ball that moved all day - His words, apparently M. King will back it up.

Now we saw M. Chandrasekhar enter the crease to do what he does best, building on last weeks success we saw at Allerton he looked in fine form. With M. King and M. Chandrasekhar punishing the bad balls it wasn't long till we approached our total and M. King grabbing his 50. Yet again this team has depth and strength all over. With the game almost over M. Chandrasekhar had to finish the game in the only way we think he is capable of doing it. A big 6, the lad doesn't mess about.

MATCH DAY & TEAM SELECTION!!

It's another week of cricket down at The Avenue, our Saturday 11 are at home vs Nostell CC 2nd's. After a strong performance last time can the lads make it 3 on the spin?

A couple changes to last weeks side as we see C. Wilburn, E. Wilburn and T. Butterworth all renter the side. A very strong 11 the skipper is making his aims known.

With an abundance of players this week we also loan out D. Gordan and L. Beck. Both are on loan at Hemsworth Miners Welfare CC we wish them both good luck and know they will do us proud.

Post Match - Very late

A very late Saturday post match this week,

Our Saturday 11 traveled to Allerton Bywater last week in the search of another win. After winning the toss skipper Cammy decided to field on a damp outfield.

Opening up the attack was loanee B. Seed (Admin was told the wrong last name for the team selection). A great start saw us begin the first over with a maiden. On the other end was on M. Chandrasekhar, who as always kept it tight and controlled. Working in tandem both openers kept the opposition quiet in the first 10 overs. B. Seed bowled his 5 overs before having to come off due to age restrictions, he finished his bowling with figures - no wickets for 9 runs and 3 maidens from 5 overs. A really good showing from the yougster.

M. Brown was brought on to try and make an impact on the other end with M. Chandrasekhar still going with 5 overs left. In M. Brown's fourth over he struck, a brilliant ball saw D. Alderson removed. M. Chandrasekhar continued restricting our hosts however was unable to find a break through on the day. He finished his spell 10 overs no wickets for 18 runs. T. Smith was brought into the attack.

M. Brown continued to cause headaches for the Allerton batters and really made it difficult for them to score runs, going on to take a further 3 wickets and complete his full 10 overs, 4-23. R. Wilcock was brought in to replace M. Brown from the top end. T. Smith as always showed his quality with the ball, relentless consistency kept the batters quiet and it wasn't long till he got his rewards, R. Beever caught for 0. Next came P. Handley stumped. Now it was R. Wilcock's turn to pick up a couple. A. Faiz stumped for 0, followed by S. Allion stumped for 3. Now it was only one man who was ever going to finish it off, T. Smith. Old reliable, J. Wright hitting the ball straight into the air leaving everyone watching even Tony who didn't even move, until skipper Cammy secured the catch.

Allerton Bywater 81 all out from 33.4

Now our turn to bat, we saw regular openers M. King and D. Housley at the crease. A steady start saw us reach 9 before our first wicket fell, D. Housley bowled. M. Chandrasekhar came next to join M. King at the crease, working together they moved us closer to our total before a cracker of a ball by P. Wood saw M. King depart for 12. Next saw K. Punugoti enter who enjoyed a short innings and departed with golden duck. Next up was B. Murphy, with the hat trick ball on the pressure was on, a nice forward defensive saw the hat trick denied. However Murphy's time at the crease was short lived as he departed 2 balls later with 0.

With a bit of nerves setting in for the skipper he sent in M. Brown to go on the counter attack. And by heck he did, M. Browns first runs of the day came in the form of a 6 followed up by a 4. Counter attacking cricket at its finest. M. Brown and M. Chandrasekhar continued working together to push us closer to our total with M. Brown hitting 2 sixes and 4 fours. And in good Bentley fashion our total was reached in the only way M. Brown knew, a big 6.

Bentley chase down 81 in 16 overs total.

We now cement our position in second and stay within 12 points of league leaders Notton CC. The lads look forward to continuing this run on form this weekend at home to Nostall CC.

Team Selection -

This week we see out Saturday 11 travel to Allerton Bywater CC. After a confident win last week skipper Cammy has assembled a squad he thinks will get the business done.

Changes this week, N. Smith, C. Smith and C. Wilburn drop out and are replaced with lead run scorer M King, big hitter M. Brown and loanee B. Speed. We appreciate our friends at Frickley Colliery Welfare CC for helping us out and hope we can provide some good match experience for B. Speed.

We currently sit second in the table 12 points behind Notton CC.

Match Report -

I promised a good match report and that was due to one reason only, J. Bowers what a man, Chris Gayle in disguise?

DG and and M Brown opened up with the new ball, DG bowled a tidy spell picking up 3 wickets and going for 10 runs, martin brown took the ball at the other end and after some questionable wides the ball soon plummeted into the stumps and sent another Fenwick player back to the pavilion,

Joel Guest next into the attack picking up a wicket with his 1st ball with a catch by the Bentley keeper down the leg side, he soon sent another one packing after flighting it up and the batsman playing all around it J Vickers was Stumped.

We then turned to E Wilburn and O mitchell to finish the Fenwick batters off Ed bowled some lovely ‘stump to stump’ bowling and picked up 2 wickets for his troubles. Owen got the Fenwick Skipper and pick of the batsmen Matty Harrison first ball and it was soon just a matter of time before the rest were to follow.

Fenwick 81 all out from 17.2 pick of the bowlers has to be Danny Glover however a special mention has to go to Guesty for his Brian Loversuch impression and wonderful figures of 4 overs 11 runs and 2 wickets

With a target of 82 and rain on the way we were under pressure to end it fast and by heck we did.

Opening we had two men J. Bowers & L. Richards, a slow start with 2 taken from the first over you might think the nerves were creeping it. Second over we saw J. Bowers get into rhythm, back to back sixes confirmed it to all. Third over 4 from L. Richards.

Fourth over, 6,6,6,6,6,6. Yes you read that correct, 6 sixes back to back to back and more, J. Bowers giving the lads that Headingley feeling. Six again Football Field again!! This also confirmed his 50 which we don't think he even realised.

Fifth over, L Richards kept the score going with a 4 straight off the bat. Some good rotation of the strike saw J. Bowers get back on strike for the sixth over.

With nobody wanting to face the same grim experience as J. Vickers, M. Harrison took the ball. For 2 balls we believed we would be done in the sixth. First ball 6, Second ball 6, it couldn't happen again could it? No it couldn't. However he wasn't content with just two in the over, he had to get one final 6.

Seventh and final over, Jordan couldn't have all the fun as L. Richards creamed the ball away for a glorious 4 on the second ball.

Bentley win, J. Bowers 50 in 12 balls, we don't know what to say.

Jordan Bowers -

I could just leave it there and i would get away with it. What an innings what a man. A 12 ball 50, 6 back to back sixes, 11 sixes total. Jordan put on a display that you only dream to see, 69 runs from 20 balls, no more words needed.

This man has played 6 innings for Bentley midweek and has produced 195 runs alone. It is a pleasure and privilege to have this man part of our midweek 11. Speechless is the only words i have.

Just don't ask him to play darts,
