MATCH REPORT
Here is Saturdays match report from our win against Nostell 2nds that saw us cement our second place league position.
We started off with skipper Cameron winning the toss and electing to field as always. Opening the bowling we had the main men, M. Chandrasekhar & M. Brown. With the visitors starting strong it definitely was not what any of our lads expected. However it wasn't long till we struck, Bucket hands Leyton with a catch from M. Brown saw our visitors 1-17. It wasn't long later till we struck again, B. Murphy with a one handed grab that just stuck to his hand like glue. Unfortunately today wasn't the day for . M. Chandrasekhar who was unable to take any wickets during his spell.
With a change on one end we saw T. Smith enter the attack with his steady line and length helping to reduce the visitors run rate rather heavily. M. Brown still on at the other end provided a lot of problems for the batters and he got his reward by trapping the Nostell batter LBW. T. Smith wanted in on the action as he then went on to bowl M. Staniforth. M. Brown then came to the end of his spell 10 overs - 3 wickets for 32 runs 2 Maidens.
Now we saw T. Butterworth come into the attack, bowling something that i can't describe. T. Smith at the other end providing his challenges as T. Butterworth bowling around the wicket trying to tempt the batters into a big swipe. Both causing issues and you can see why, Wicket for T. Butterworth LBW, Bowled, Caught. A almost full house of dismissals. T. Smith still on the other end continued to prod away and he got his reward in form of a catch via M. King. T. Smith finished his spell 10 overs 2 - 18 3 maidens.
Next into the attack was R. Wilcock, with T. Butterworth on the other end the lack of pace on the ball from the pair made it difficult for the Nostell batters to score. T. Butterworth picking up wickets at the other end keeping the wickets going. R. Wilcock picking up just the one as the batter dragged onto the stumps way outside the line. T. Butterworth ended his spell 10 overs 3 for 35.
Nostell finished their innings 125/9 from 40.
Now onto the batting,
M. King and B. Murphy opened this week, M. King yet again setting the standard with B. Murphy following on. Both working together and setting a cracking partnership of 82 in 16.1 overs. Unfortunately the partnership was broken as B. Murphy was bowled by the only ball that moved all day - His words, apparently M. King will back it up.
Now we saw M. Chandrasekhar enter the crease to do what he does best, building on last weeks success we saw at Allerton he looked in fine form. With M. King and M. Chandrasekhar punishing the bad balls it wasn't long till we approached our total and M. King grabbing his 50. Yet again this team has depth and strength all over. With the game almost over M. Chandrasekhar had to finish the game in the only way we think he is capable of doing it. A big 6, the lad doesn't mess about.
Bentley win, 15 points,
