🌊 Would your child know what to do in an emergency? 🌊

A recent survey revealed a startling statistic: only 30% of parents feel 'very confident' that their child knows how to stay safe in and around water.

As we mark Drowning Prevention Week, Doncaster Culture & Leisure Trust supporting the Royal Life Saving Society UK want to help close that gap. Water safety isn't just about knowing how to swim, it's about knowing how to survive.

This summer, let's give our kids the confidence and skills they need. Talk to your children about water safety today.

Pick a colouring sheet or draw us your favourite place to swim safely, and you could win an amazing prize! It's the perfect activity to get the kids ready for summer.

With warmer weather, it’s important to understand the very real risks that can accompany our time near water. Education and awareness are the first steps to saving lives.

Please read these shocking and important facts from the Royal Lifesaving Society:

⚠️ The High-Risk Season: Nearly half (47%) of all accidental drownings occur in the warmer months between May and August.

⚠️ Unexpected Entry: 47% of those who lost their life to accidental drowning in the UK never even intended to be in the water. They were walking, running, or working nearby and fell in.

⚠️ Supervision Matters: 73% of these tragic accidental drownings occur where there is no professional supervision, like a trained lifeguard.

We are proud to support Drowning Prevention Week with the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) and Doncaster Culture & Leisure Trust.

🌊 Do you and your family know the Water Safety Code? 🌊

With summer here, keeping our loved ones safe around water is top priority. The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) breaks down the four simple, life-saving steps everyone should memorize before heading out to swim, splash, or walk near the water this season.

Take a look at the code outlined:

🛑 STOP AND THINK: Take time to assess your surroundings. Look for the dangers and always research local signs and advice.
👫 STAY TOGETHER: When around water always go with friends or family. Swim at a lifeguarded venue.
📞 CALL 999: Ask for the Fire and Rescue Service when inland and the Coastguard if at the coast. Don't enter the water to rescue.
🧘‍♂️ FLOAT: Fall in or become tired—stay calm, float on your back and call for help. Throw something that floats to somebody that has fallen in.

Take a moment to talk through these 4 steps with your kids today—it could make all the difference. 💙
