Match Report
Doncaster Deaf FC 0 - 9 Praetorians

Just before the start of the game we realised that we were down to 11 players. The opposition only had 10. This meant that we had little choice to start everyone and hope they could manage the full game, unless the cavalry arrived at half time.

The pitch was terrible, very wet and sloppy in places and it was questionable as to whether the game should have actually gone ahead.

Anyone watching from the sidelines, there weren’t many, would have struggled to tell that Doncaster Deaf were the team with 10 players, especially during the first 45 mins.

We made it very hard work trying to break them down and we were limited to long range shots and, when we did get closer to the goal, we just couldn’t put it away.

It took us a very long time to get the first goal of the game which was somewhat fortuitous, a corner coming over from the right and going in off the back of Ryan as he missed it with his head.

The opposition had one significant chance during the first half where a long range effort moved in the wind, the GK leaving it thinking it was well wide, when it turned out it wasn’t that far away and it narrowly missed.

After a bit of a chat at half time the second period was a lot better. We were hoping that some players would be there at half time to swap some players but unfortunately not, so we battled on with what we had.

The ball was being passed around as best we could in the conditions, but the opposition wouldn’t lie down, despite the onslaught on their goal. It seemed that most attacks we were having was creating opportunities where we could have scored. There were some close range efforts, some long range efforts and an OG to boot, a good mixture of goals to ease us through to the semifinal.

Another long range effort from the opposition could have given them hope but it came back off the post and there only other major chance they had was a one on one with the GK who stood his ground and when necessary mad a great save down to his right to deflect the ball wide of the goal.

During the second half Lucas succumbed to his hangover and had to leave the pitch, so it was 10 v 10, but we managed to keep control of the game and we’re still scoring goals.

All in all a solid performance from the team, especially from some who would never have expected to do the full game.

Results - Match reports to follow

Sunday 25th Jan saw both teams in action. Urbanae were at home in Division 1 whilst the Praetorians were away in the quarter final of the flourish cup.

Urbanae 0 - 2 RUCST1
The difficult season continues but from the accounts we have had from the game it was a much improved performance and the lads were unlucky not to get something out of the game.

The team have 5 league fixtures left this season and a cup semi final to look forward to, so still lits to play for. After winning their league last season they stepped up to a higher level and have had some tough games.

We are sure they will keep fighting and do the club proud throughout the rest of the season.

Doncaster Deaf FC 0 - 9 Praetorians
The fist meeting of these two teams turned out to be a very one sided affair, well on the score sheet it was. On the pitch it was a different story.

With a good win the team now go through to the semi final of their cup competition, both teams have the possibility of making it to finals day.

Matchday Report
Sunday 11th January 2026
Praetorians v RUCST2

Despite the terrible weather we have been experiencing over the last several days the game went ahead, mainly due to the fact it was on a 3G pitch.

This was the reverse fixture of our first league game this season in which we came away with a 2-0 win away at Wickersley.

We knew this was going to be a tough game and the manager had lots of players to select from, and on the day ended up with one of the biggest match day squads we have ever had.

The team were desperate for a win, we were currently level on points with our opponents having played one game less, and we’re hoping we could close the gap on Sheffield FC who were in second.

The conditions weren’t great, raining pretty much through the whole game and very windy, but as always both teams had the same conditions to deal with.

Despite a good start to the game we soon found ourselves behind, our opponents making the most of an opportunity to get ahead in the game
0-1

After the initial goal the game calmed down, but both teams were having chances and the keepers were kept busy and RUCST2 should have extended their lead on a couple of occasions. We were having some good attempts from distance but they were fizzing past the posts, but at the wrong side!!

The gaffer made some changes to the team and formation and they paid dividends almost immediately.
Tyler Gaffney bringing the score level with the assist from Christopher Felters after some good build up play through the middle of the park.
1-1

At half time the scores were level but the game was there to be won. Some more changes were made to keep legs fresh but this time it took a bit longer to pay off.

On 69 minutes there was a bit of pinball in the oppositions box, the ball flying around and the ref deemed that it struck a defenders arm, penalty given.
With no designated penalty taker decided before the game, Derek Parker stepped up to take the kick and calmly slotted it home to put us ahead for the first time in the game.
2-1

The lead was short lived. A speculative effort from distance left our keeper flummoxed and somehow the ball squeezed through their hands and nestled in the back of the goal, cue huge celebration from the opposition and some harsh comments from the team and bench to Lucas Revell for the lapse in concentration. He did make up for it throughout the rest of the game with some great 1 on 1 saves though.
2-2

More changes made and again these soon paid off. A period of extended pressure led to a good attack and what ended up being a cross from Tyler, we think it was a powerful shot to be honest, but it fired across the front of the goal and Callum Jordan was there to tap it into an open net
3-2

There were still chances for both teams to grab more goals but the final whistle went and it was a hard earnd victory for the lads.

Man of the match sponsored by The Styrrup was Craig Elliot, sorry can’t tag you. A fantastic display at CB for the full 90 minutes, making some last ditch blocks and tackles keeping us in the game. Along with the rest of the back 4 who all played their part.

Amazing effort form the lads moves us on to 6 points and next up we are in cup action.

Well done gents.

Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA Flourish League Division 2

RUCST 2 0 - 2 Praetorians

On Sunday the Praetorians took the short trip over to Wickersley to play their first league fixture of the season against RUCST2. They are a brand new team to the league this season and a team that we have never played before so the team had no idea what to expect when they turned up.

The fixture was also on grass, normally an immediate bogey for the team having lost all of their fixtures on grass last season, so they knew they would be in for a tough afternoon.

The team has seen a lot of new faces over the off-season so working out the best formation for the team was going to be hard enough, never mind working out which position would be best for each player. The manger went over with good squad numbers of 16/17 players but had to make some last minute changes due to some players having to drop out of the squad due to illness and other commitments.

During the first 20-25 minutes of the game both teams were trying to settle into the game and find out the best way to break down their opposition and chances were limited with neither team really creating too much pressure. For some reason it was decided that we were going to have a water break roughly halfway through each half. After the break we started to grow more into the game, and despite the best effort of Ryan, who almost spectacularly put through his own net, with a mis-cued clearance that came back off the post, the sides went into the half time break at 0-0.

We also had a penalty award waved away by the referee when the keeper clearly took out Tyler, despite getting the ball first, he couldn't stop his challenge and brought him down inside the box, but the referee couldn't be moved and play continued, despite our protests.

In the second half there were some changes made to the formation to try and compensate for the fact that we had quite a significant slope in our half of the pitch. This only lasted for a short amount of time and then the team changed to a new formation.

In the second half there were a lot more opportunities to score for both teams and Lucas, in the Praetorians goal was having a great game making some crucial saves to keep the game level.

After the second water break of the game, the message was to go for the win. First game of the season, and although a point would be nice, it was felt that we could do better and get all three points to take back with us.

Some slight tweaks were made and these were about to pay off. After having several chances to take the lead, we knew that our time would come and that a goal was going to be scored, it was just a matter of when and who.

The first goal came from a somewhat scruffy build up, with Adam getting a pass on the ball to Chris Felters who fired the ball home past the keeper, giving him little chance to save it. A well deserved goal that put us in front, but we felt that this wouldn't be enough. If it wasn't for the fine efforts of Lucas it definitely wouldn't have been.

The second goal was old school route one, with a long kick from Lucas in goal that travelled the majority of the length of the pitch with Tyler Gaffney getting onto the end of it, he managed to get a powerful shot away which rifled into the net. A massive goal for the team to give us some breathing space and a goal that was thoroughly deserved for Tyler after working hard for the full game. It clearly helped with the frustration he was experiencing finally getting that goal.

The whole team put in a massive effort during this game and thoroughly deserved to get something out of it. The starting eleven created a sound foundation for us to work from and when the subs were made they came on and impacted the game. A great start to the season and now we go back and look at working on areas for improvement for our next fixture.

The The Styrrup Man of the Match is Lucas Revell. Despite not being his preferred position, but taking it on as a favour to the team, he had an amazing game in goal. Making multiple saves throughout the game and some crucial one on one saves which could have made the result completely different.

Massive shout out to RUCST2, a great bunch of lads, and the club wishes them well for the rest of the season, we are looking forward to welcoming them to Rosso later in the season.

As always, many thanks to our club sponsors, without you, none of this would be possible and if any of you would like to make a donation to the fund raising then this would be greatly appreciated. Anything we can raise would be put to great use.
