Today we welcomed Chalgrove reserves to the rec for our first home game of the season.
After last weeks disappointment the lads were determined to move on and put it right, and today we did it in Style! We opened the scoring inside 10 minutes when a ball found Burkey bursting into the box from right back, awesome first touch and a finish a striker would be proud of past the keeper to give us the lead. We continued to control the game, Tom, Ellis and Ben in midfield were dictating the play. We soon doubled our advantage with a smart finish from Mason to open his account for his second spell at the club.
The returning Johnny was looking dangerous on the wing and could have increased our lead but for a horrible bobble as he hit his shot at the keeper. Alfie on the other wing had the fullback on the ropes but the 3rd wouldn’t come. Ben in goal making his competitive debut for the Devs controlled everything sent his way, the back 4 of Felix, Will, Fin and Burkey dealt with everything in front of him.
Half time and Anthony replaced the knackered Johnny who played for the first game in 6 months after travelling. It was then one way traffic! Alfie found the keeper in inspiring form with 2 good chances before he thumped the 3rd home to give us breathing space. Harry came on for Tom shortly after and got on the scoresheet with a debut goal. They pulled 1 back from a corner we failed to clear. On came Fosty who’s mazy run and cross from left back to left wing should have increased our lead only the keeper keeping it out. Anthony was causing havoc with his close control and strength but we couldn’t convert. Jack Warren came on for Mason who had put a shift in at #9 and linked the play, Alfie broke into the box and was pulled down. He got up and converted the spot kick for his 3nd of the game. Dylan replaced Fin and we continued to dominate until the final whistle for the win. Brilliant performance today by all of the lads, could have had double figures on another day.
MOTM today was Fin, won everything, and I mean everything! 20 hour flight yesterday and 70 minutes played today is fully deserved 🏅💙
Brilliant response from everyone that played today, and has set the standards for next week.
Big shout to the lads that missed out today as we had enough players for 3 teams, not Two. Really good to see those of you supporting the team 💙
