Some things have changed.
Maternity notes on an app, protocols and services available some good some for the worse sadly.
And that is why I am so passionate about providing a weekly haven of support and understanding.

What hasn’t changed in 15 years is the absolute awe and admiration I have for women. The way their bodies adapt.
I’d like to see more messaging surrounding holding the mother and acknowledging that through ALL of it (changing body, hormones, sleep interruption, heart burn, back ache) still society expects her to go on as normal. all in a days work.
pregnancy isn’t an illness and should by no means limit you but I feel 100% that you deserve to be honoured and above all, seen.

Pregnancy yoga isn’t just a yoga class with a few adjustments thrown in, it’s a community of its own. A place where you are safe to be vulnerable, rest if you need to and be queen for at least an hour.

Late Summer is a time when we return to the middle, between the expansive growth of Spring/Summer and the more inward energy of Autumn/Winter. The 5th season.

This makes late Summer an ideal time for centering. It’s a great opportunity to “digest” your experiences so far this year, sorting through which are nourishing , and which you can let go of.
Ruled by spleen and stomach meridians it’s a time to re-build shift and encourage more movement. Associated with earth element it can be an invitation to grounding and for me know where your priorities are. Who and where does your support come from?
Movement helps to turn all of that nourishment and what we choose to keep into vital energy. So on the mat we flow and let go. Off the mat we thank the Summer for the lessons and move on

Change is afoot.

It would seem a house move wasn’t enough change for me this year so we’re moving class venues too.
There’s been a lot to get my head around lately and I really hope it’s true when they say a change is as good as a holiday because I haven’t had one of those this summer.

Anyhoooo, we’ll be moving to our new respective class venues from the 1st September starting with Tuesday and Wednesday in All Saints Youth & Community hall. Thereafter Mondays will be in the East Hagbourne Pavilion. Keep an eye on emails and reminders for addresses and directions.

Finally thank you to the most amazing community for all your support and messages. Sheglowyoga will be wherever we are 💜

It may surprise you to hear that I don’t spend hours working on my sirsasana every day ✌️

I also don’t think the aim of a yoga practice is to escape the world or somehow lead an apathetic existence.
I do believe our yoga practise prepares us for being involved in every day life.
We enjoy how the physical practise makes us feel, clearer and lighter but asana or postures are the starting point not the end. Ultimately the practise doesn’t stop at the edge of the mat, but helps shape our thinking and doing in the world.
The Summer will slowly turn into late Summer and then Autumn but how that looks and feels to us who like to observe the seasons can be jarring.
So when you feel like there’s nothing you can do against a tide of important people making questionable decisions, I’d like to remind you that we can turn to our practice and use it to embolden us for action.

Holding the Mother.
I’ve gone back and forth recently, examining whether what I have to offer in this space is relevant.
I think it’s important for anyone providing support and guidance to new mothers to ensure they’re truly meeting the needs of women, alongside changing pre and post natal care that honestly (in the UK) often falls short.
That’s why nods like these are always appreciated. I have a responsibility to try and fill the gaps and I know I could do more.
So if you’re looking for a space to land as a mother we’d love to welcome you. There will always be acceptance, evidence based support, encouragement and a cup of tea with a biscuit.
*Disclaimer * home baked goods happen less frequently but on magical weeks when I have my ducks in a semi configuration but chocolate hobnobs are standard.

Our new term starts 3rd September 10.30am in Didcot
