FIRST AWAY DAY OF THE SEASON ⚽️
KIPPAX vs THORNHILL AFC | 4-0

We headed over to Kippax for our first away game of the season, with a few familiar faces missing from the squad…

Bobby was busy watching Town get spanked at Bromley, young Jack Townend was at a party in the Whacky Warehouse, meaning Nath Barrett had to go and rescue him from the ball pool🤣 and Batesy, well… Batesy only plays home games. Simple as that.

Despite the absences, we started strongly, playing into a difficult wind and creating a number of chances. Bailey came closest, forcing a great save from their keeper.

Unfortunately, we then conceded two quick goals. The first was a scrappy one in the six-yard box, before a shirt pull in the penalty area resulted in a penalty. Jimmy Morty nearly got a hand to it, but it wasn’t to be.

Just before the 35-minute mark, Bailey was fouled and both players reacted, resulting in a yellow card each. Five minutes later, we were reduced to 10 men.

The second half was a proper battle. The lads didn’t give in, continuing to work hard and play through injuries, but two late goals put the game beyond us.

Plenty of positives to take, though.

👏 Oli Boocock made his first appearance for Thornhill.

👏 Akeem Field made his first league appearance.

⭐ Dan Coucill put in a MOM performance at the back, winning everything in the air and showing great leadership throughout.

A tough first away day, but plenty of fight and character shown by the lads.

FULL TIME | Thornhill AFC 8–1 Featherstone Rovers

Percy and Ozzy couldn’t have asked for a much better start to the season.

The lads controlled the game from start to finish, putting in a proper shift in the first half and going into the break 5–0 up.

⚽ Goals:
* Bailey Hall x3 — 1’, 2’, 23’
* Ethan Purcell — 5’
* Nathan Barrett — 8’
* Jake Blackburn x3 — 42’, 55’, 85’

🎯 Assists:
Jake Blackburn x2, Nathan Barrett & Bobby Childe.

The second half was a bit quieter, with Featherstone getting one back, but we still managed to add another three goals and finish the game 8–1.

Man of the Match: Jake Blackburn; hat-trick and two assists. Well deserved. 👏

A mention for Bailey Hall too, with his own hat-trick and a particularly busy opening 23 minutes.

Dan Coucill was solid at the back all game and did a great job organising and commanding the defensive line.

Big well done to Bobby Childe and Lewis Turner, both 17 and making their first open-age appearances. They both stepped up and had cracking games.

Well done to Jack Townend on his 16th birthday making an appearance and putting in a shift.

Also, special mention to Nathan Barrett, who managed to lose a contact lens during the game and carried on playing with one eye. Commitment… or just poor preparation? 😂

Plenty to be happy with, but plenty to keep working on. Good first game, good result and a positive start.
