UPDATE: Parents have been contacted and apologised profoundly and will be disciplining the boys involved

Not what we wanted to be posting on a Wednesday night 😞

However, yesterday afternoon (26th May) 3 lads went on the bowling green on their bikes. This has created a mess across the green with tyre marks

A lot of work, effort and money goes into the maintenance of our green and for this to be ruined by the selfish act of boys like this is ridiculous

We believe we do have an ID of one of the boys from a close up picture and action will be taken

But parents, let’s be mindful of what our kids are up to 😳

We know the weekend has gone but hey let’s keep those Saturday vibes going 🤩💪🏻

Let us introduce you to our Wakefield Saturday team. This is a great, new group of bowlers who are currently enjoying the Wakefield league played on a Saturday

With 3 new bowlers, 3 newer bowlers who have been playing with us for 2 years it is great to see the fun vibes this team is bringing. They are supported with experienced bowlers Derek and Jenny who are fantastic teachers! 💪🏻

Can we also say thank you to Lynn for taking on the captaincy this year, it’s a job that can be quite difficult but as your first captaincy role you are doing great! 👏🏻👏🏻

Our first internal competition of the season and it has be won by… A NEW BOWLER!! 👏🏻👏🏻

Meet Adam, he initially sparked up an interest in bowls when coming to watch his father in law Phil play. Him and his partner Shannon then said let’s try and have a go 💪🏻💪🏻

Nearly 2 months in and they have both enjoyed learning the rules of the game, visiting different greens in the Wakefield Saturday League and of course being part of the social aspect behind bowls

For Today’s Club Handicap there was a fantastic turn out and the weather made the day even better (despite the Leeds result 😂) Adam played superbly throughout the day and he bet not 1…not 2… but 3 “scratch” players which is brilliant to see 💪🏻💪🏻

Well done again Adam, the trophy in the cabinet 🏆💪🏻👏🏻

It’s the start of the Mirfield and District Bowling Association tonight and our team are at home to Alverthorpe WMC - 7pm start!

With that comes a weekly update from James Mcneill with “Maccas Motivational Message” 👇🏻👇🏻

“It’s that time of year again boys. The bowing season has returned.
Last year we showed what we’re capable of but this season, it’s time to assert ourselves. We’re not here just to take part; we’re here to dominate this league.
We’ve built a strong squad, full of talent, energy, and commitment.

Every one of us has something different to bring and when we encourage each other and pull together, we’re unstoppable.

Let’s push for every point, even in a loss points can help us win. This is our moment to kick on from last year and show the league what we’re made of”

Best of luck boys 🤞🏻

📢 Important Update: Spring Individual Competitions

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Thornhill Bowling Section will no longer be running our Spring Individual Competitions.

This wasn't an easy decision to make, but several factors have made it unsustainable to continue these events

❤️ A Huge Thank You ❤️

We don’t want to close this chapter without acknowledging those who made these years so memorable.

A massive thank you goes out to every player who has stepped onto the green and supported us over the years. Your talent and passion for the game are what kept us going for so long.💪🏻

We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to our valued sponsors. Your generosity provided the backbone for these competitions, and we truly appreciate your investment in our club.💪🏻

While the spring individuals are taking a break, we look forward to seeing you all around the club and on the green for our upcoming league matches and the open pairs competition which will still be going ahead at the end of the season 👍🏻😊

All of the bowling Section would like to send their condolences on the passing of Lynda

Many visitors to Thornhill may have seen Lynda behind the bar, serving us with a smile

😢😢😢

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our much-loved bar staff member, Lynda, passed away on 23rd December.

Lynda truly loved the club and the people she met here. She played a huge part in our mornings, helping to run the kitchen and serving hearty breakfast sandwiches to our footballers and their families. Many of you will also remember her behind the bar, where she became a firm favourite with our regulars — always welcoming, always kind.

Lynda will be dearly missed by her family, friends, our staff, and our members. She was a special part of our club community, and her presence will not be forgotten.

There will be a private, non-attended funeral. The family will be organising a celebration of life, and details will be shared when available.

Our thoughts are with Lynda’s loved ones at this very difficult time.

Lynda, forever in our hearts 🖤💚
