As the season draws in to a close and leagues start finishing we wanted to do write ups from our teams seasons

We are starting this with the Mirfield League which finished a week or so back

As many know this is the highest standard league at the moment and even in Division 3 the calibre of bowlers is still at a high,consistent level. We headed into the season aiming to stay up 🤞🏻

It was a difficult start to the league with a number of home defeats and some hard results to swallow away from home, but there were some great bounce backs in the second half of the season. Unfortunately by this time it was too much of a big ask to claw the points back, resulting in us being relegated to Division 4. Hopefully we will get straight back into Div 3 next season but here are some comments from our captain Gary:

“After a slow start we got better as the season went on but realistically it was always going to to be tough to stop up after the first two results. On the plus side we are now creating a stronger squad with the addition of Nick and Adam and hopefully we can bounce back next season in div 4.”

Winner enclosure 🏆🏆

Well done to Thornhill’s Mandy and Ryan Mitchell who won the David Jewitt Memorial Trophy which was held at Overthorpe Sports Club yesterday 👏🏻

David was well known across the bowling community all for the right reasons. Never showing any fear with what he was going through and becoming a friend to many at Thornhill Bowling. He supported our competitions nearly every year, along with grabbing some excellent photos of the days

Yesterday was a day to raise money for charity as well as having fun throughout the day. We’ve got to say there was some great bowling from the non bowlers who took part, especially the football lads who were keen as mustard 😂

Thank you to Heather, Nathan Jewitt, Gee and the rest of the family for hosting/sponsoring the competition, as well as Jonny helping with the event, it was a fantastic day 👏🏻👏🏻💪🏻

Sometimes it’s not all about the winning 🙃

We have had some new additions to our Mirfield league team this year and it has been great to see them adapt to our tricky green

What’s more important is the banter and team ethos that you create and we love welcoming those new bowlers

Yes it’s been a challenge but when you are playing in the best league what else can you expect

Well our Thornhill Cup was another hit 💪🏻💪🏻

On Sunday we held our bowler/non bowler pairs competition on a glorious sunny day ☀️

There was some fantastic bowling from our non bowlers, some even better than our current members 😂🤦🏼‍♂️

The key for this day is a relaxed, social atmosphere and gauging interest in the sport; which we did 💪🏻🤩

Well done to our Winners Kath Robinson and Lewis, with our runners up being Phil and Alan

Thank you to everyone who supported this event, to all those that helped in the kitchen and to the bar staff at Thornhill Cricket and Bowling Club for keeping us hydrated 🥤

It’s competition time 🏆

Ever wanted to try your hand at Crown Green bowls? 🤔

Have you felt nervous about going down to a green and asking someone how to get involved? 💭

You’re in luck! We are bringing the competition to you!

We are holding our famous Thornhill Cup which is traditional known as our bowler and non bowler competition 💪🏻

This is a superb chance for any person of any age to come and have a go at our great sport 🤩

On the morning you’ll be paired up with one of our bowling members, who will show you the ins and outs of the game. It is then a normal knockout competition but with full backing of your partner coaching you all the way! There’s plenty of laughs and as a section we have been able to welcome over 30 new bowlers to the section from their interest!

Don’t miss out, you can comment if you would like to express interest or know someone that might. We do have an entry sheet in the main club where you can also write your name down (Thornhill Cricket and Bowling Club)
